SPORTS DAY!

SPORTS DAY!

Try having a ‘class’ sports afternoon/morning rather than a more traditional ‘whole school’ approach! Example Timetable: Mon am: Nursery Mon pm: Reception Tues am: Year 1 Tues pm: Year 2 Wed am: Year 3 Wed pm: Year 4 Thurs am: Year 5 Thurs pm: Year 6 I’ve attached a simple but effective programme for sports day that includes 6 different activities. These are: Standing Broad Jump Javelin Sprinting Egg and spoon Quoit Scramble Obstacle course All activities can easily be adapted!! I’ve also included a sports field plan and 3 different group timetables (up to a maximum of 12 in each group). You could order some ‘Ice Pops’ for the children (also integrated into the plan). Good luck!!

Sportsmanship

Sportsmanship

During the sessions, the facilitator is encouraged to allow the participants to think about the topic, express their viewpoints, share their experiences and explore its applicability in day to day life. The facilitator would allow the participants to arrive at their own conclusions, rather than imposing his views or opinions – they could even be different from the thoughts given here. DESCRIPTION (Thoughts such as, what does sportsmanship mean, what it is all about and what its different facets are, may enable the facilitator understand it better. Some such thoughts about sportsmanship are given below.) Sportsmanship is the attitude of a person, which makes him accept a given situation with an open mind. Sportsmanship refers to fairness, self-control, courage, honesty and persistence. Sportsmanship is accepting the end result of a game – winning or losing – with equanimity. Sportsman spirit includes respect for others including team members and opponents. It is what brings about healthy competition among the participants. The intent and questions to be followed in the preparation document. Each offers rhyme, rhythm, descriptive words and scope for multiple activities: clapping, enacting, language-building, physical movement, performance, and preparation for any follow-on writing. Poker #2 Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Sports Games

Poker #2 Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Sports Games

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘Poker’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

KS3 Athletics Reward Scheme

KS3 Athletics Reward Scheme

An effective assessment tool to motivate students to compete competitively in every athletics event. Certificates or rewards can be given to the students after the lesson to showcase achievements. The scores/timings/distances are in correlation with the ESAA standards. Has helped me with selection of athletics teams as results can be seen easily, I would advise making a spreadsheet to monitor scores/times.
