A comprehensive set of materials to help students prepare for the writing exam. Guidance on each question, including success criteria from the new mark scheme (drawing on my training as an AQA examiner for the new specification). Comprehensive vocabulary lists and tasks to help students revise key structures and vocabulary. I have added the vocab lists as excel lists so that they can be easily copied and pasted into various revision applications, or simply copied and pasted onto word documents. Pablo Neruda - A selection of poetry studies

Pablo Neruda - A selection of poetry studies

This collection of documents make up a unit of work exploring Neruda’s poetry from a sociopolitical perspective. I put this together to teach part of the Cambridge Pre-U specification for Paper 4, Topics and Texts, as part of the topic “Justicia y Opresión en América Latina”. The basis of our unit of work was to explore Neruda’s politics and how this affected his life and works. He is referred to as the “Poet of the People”, and we took this as our starting point. Like Fray Bartolomé, he used his influence to speak on behalf of those with no voice. The poetry explores a huge part of Latin American history, from Incan civilization to the 1960s. Taken as a whole, the collection shows that much still has to be done to improve social justice. The second part of this unit was a study of the film También la lluvia, showing similar themes of exploitation and injustice.

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

AQA A Level Spanish Topic Summaries and Ideas - Years 1&2

These powerpoints were made by me during my A Level Spanish studies; they summarise key facts, figures and discussion points relating to each of the topics and sub-themes which will help when it comes to studying and revising for the speaking exam, as well as vocabulary for the written exams. They include all of the year one and year two topics, as well as useful vocab that’s either listed or used within each slide. It’s set out in an easy-to-use order to avoid confusion and has extra information (e.g. examples of events in the Spanish-speaking world which are relevant to each sub-theme and can be very impressive in the exam) and is handy for finding what you’re looking for. My teacher will be using these to support her next class, I am sure it will be very helpful!

GCSE Spanish environment dominoes

GCSE Spanish environment dominoes

GCSE Spanish matching activity to revise or introduce the topic of the environment . I have used these dominoes in observed lessons, whole class activities and one to one with students. Students are kept busy reading and translating each domino. The vocabulary ranges from to simple to more complex so would suit mixed ability groups but could easily be differentiated by adding more complex vocabulary or full sentences to replace the simple words or adding complex idioms. Equally you could replace the complex vocabulary with simple sentences for lower ability groups or KS3.

GCSE Spanish: Vocabulary revision cards

GCSE Spanish: Vocabulary revision cards

This activity contains over 90 vocabulary revision cards which are all various levels of difficulty. Once cut up, pupils take it in turn to pick up a card at random and either speak or write down what the card says. For example “tres animales” (this would be a ‘green’ / easy card) or “tres problemas que existen en familias hoy en dia” (this would be a ‘red’ / difficult card). Translations are provided in English as well on each card to ensure understanding - pupils can either listen to the instruction in Spanish from their partner or read the instruction. This activity will help pupils revise vocabulary for topics that they might not have studied for a while, and will help them figure out which areas of vocabulary they are weakest at. I did this recently with my Year 11 class and they loved it!

A level Spanish Speaking Revision Booklet

A level Spanish Speaking Revision Booklet

A revision booklet aimed at A level students doing the AQA spec. Primarily, it includes a list of the exam regulations as well as the structure of the exam. As this booklet focuses on the stimulus card aspect of the exam, it also has a mark scheme for that. It includes an example of a stimulus card on all 12 themes used throughout AS and A level AQA Spanish. There are three questions on each card, and subsequently, there are possible answers to each question on each card to show students how to structure their planning and best use their time. There is space for extra annotations and translations to be done as the comments are in English. As the students are required to ask their teacher 2 questions relating to the card, there are also 4 examples per card of questions students could ask. At the end of the booklet, there are tasks for the students to complete. These tasks include: plan your own response for three of the questions under ‘possible questions to ask teachers’ where students are encouraged to think outside the box. practice doing one of the cards with a peer, taking it in turns to swap roles and be the examiner. This helps them to get to grips with the mark scheme. lastly, there is an example of transcript between a student and an examiner. The students should annotate this with what the student did well, and how they could improve. By doing both of these, the students can learn something.

El medio ambiente (Definiciones) - Juegos de preguntas encadenadas y de correspondencias

El medio ambiente (Definiciones) - Juegos de preguntas encadenadas y de correspondencias

This game is designed to practice vocabulary related to environmental issues. I usually split the students into groups and give each group a set of cards, as competition motivates them. It is a good idea to print each set on different colored paper, to prevent the sets from mixing. If you do not have colored paper at hand, you could also mark the back of the cards with a different colored marker or highlighter BEFORE you laminate them. There are 2 different versions of this game. Game 1 (blue frame) includes 16 cards with the definitions in Spanish of different environmental issues and 16 cards with their corresponding images and names. Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out. This is a classic matching pairs game. It can be played in several ways: The teacher deals the picture-name cards to the students and saves the definition cards in a pile. The teacher reads the definition out loud and elicits the correct term. Next class, after the students have already had some practice with it, they can try reading the definitions themselves or to a partner and pair up the cards. As a memory game - In small groups or pairs, students arrange the cards face down in rows and columns. They take turns in turning over 2 cards until they find a pair. They get to keep the pairs they find and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. Game 2 (green frame) is a Spanish version of the I-Have-Who-Has game. It includes There are 16 cards. Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out the cards. Distribute all the cards randomly to the students. The ideal number of players is 4 (4 cards for each student), but it will also work with 2 to 8 players. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies. Select a student to begin the game by reading the definition on his card out loud and then putting it down. The other students listen attentively to each definition, and say the matching word if they have the answer card and then they read the next definition. The game is over when all the cards are down. It is a great game to practice the newly taught vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills.

El medio ambiente (Vocabulario Básico) - Juego de correspondencias

El medio ambiente (Vocabulario Básico) - Juego de correspondencias

This game is a classic game of matching cards. There are 40 word cards with their corresponding 40 picture cards. I use it to introduce the new vocabulary through inquiry, asking the students to match the words to the pictures, with the help of cognates, previous knowledge, group or pair work etc. INSTRUCTIONS Print the document one-sided, laminate and cut out. Give all the cards to the students and ask them to pair up pictures and words. More ways of using the cards: As a memory game - In small groups or pairs, students arrange the cards face down in rows and columns. They take turns in turning over 2 cards until they find a pair. They get to keep the pairs they find and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. In pairs, students take any 4 to 6 picture cards and they take turns in showing one card each to their partner and eliciting the word for it. Students who say the correct word, keep the card and count them at the end of the game. Whoever has more cards, wins the game. When they finish with their cards, they can swap their cards with another pair’s cards. Similar to Spoon game - Deal all the cards to the students. The objective is to make as many pairs as possible without showing your cards to anyone. At the teacher’s signal, students put down one card to their left and then take the card on their right. When they make a pair, they put it down and continue until they get rid of all their cards.Whoever finishes the cards first, wins. The teacher deals all the word cards to the students and keeps the picture cards in a pile. Teacher shows the picture cards one by one and elicits the word. If the student who has that card knows the word and says it out loud, they take the card to make a pair. If they don’t, the teacher puts the picture card away. Students count their pairs at the end of the game. Whoever has more pairs, wins the game. This can be done vice versa, too, with the teacher dealing the picture cards and keeping the word cards.
