Drawing bar charts and line graphs in science. KS3 KS4

Drawing bar charts and line graphs in science. KS3 KS4

It's your lucky day! Two lessons in one.... AND homework! Lets be honest. If you were 13 and in science... you would much rather here "It's practical day" rather than "It's graph day!" These two lessons aim to show students easily why graphs are important and how to use them to get the most marks in their exam. It even includes a practical. And a song. Follow me on @scipreproom. Don't worry. I didn't write the song. The youtuber gets all that glory.

This info is presented in the form of a table and as a range of graphs (e.g. pie/bar charts). Aim of lesson is to first work out which graphs represent which planet. Children can then decided whether a planet is inhabitable (by comparing it to Earth's data). (Includes brief lesson plan).

The lab includes experiences in: • observing physical properties • classifying • recording data in a bar graph • predicting • variables • using a hand lens, graduated cylinder, thermometer, and clock • drawing conclusions • sharing data • recording data in a line plot The teacher will need to provide the above mentioned tools and individual candies (such as Skittles, M&Ms, Tootsie Rolls, etc.).

How to write a short research paper?

How to write a short research paper?

I have found that it is very helpful to provide students with a very general overview of what is expected of them when writing a short research paper. This is primarily meant for students aged 16 and above, but can also be used for whole-life learning. The presentation provides a detailed idea of how to prepare an abstract and advises on what structure and methodology a student could use to write their paper. The structure of the paper proposed primarily conforms to the APA guidelines.
