What are ‘Sound Baskets’? I hear you ask. ‘Sound Baskets’ are baskets that are filled with common objects that begin with the Phonic sound we are learning or have been learning in class. We are going to gather small items around the classroom and playground that begin with the phonic sound we are currently focused on. We can also pick objects that have the phonic sound within the word. Some items can be applied to more than 1 sound. Items like chairs and tables that can be seen in the classroom could be drawn instead. The sound labelled baskets can serve as a visual representation of the sounds being covered in class. The baskets can be taken out for sound reviewal exercises on a regular basis and/or students could explore the ‘sound baskets’ further during their free play time. Your efforts will surely pay off however as the observation skills of your young learners develop further. In pursuit of filling their ‘sound baskets’ their knowledge of sounds will be consolidated upon.

The food choices given are inexpensive, ready-to-go or if not, they are relatively easy to prepare. These are suggestions only. Just some simple snacks that help to create memorable Phonics classes! Some children may not want to or are not allowed to eat the snack in question, however others will, and you could even share some photos with their parents or create a classroom bulletin board all about ‘Sound Snacking!’

Sentence Matching with Crafty Jolly Phonics Now that blending is no longer such a hurdle, let’s try some sentence matching worksheets. Your young learners are going to develop their reading comprehension skills further by matching sentences that go together. They may need to use their deduction thinking skills at times, which will help to build their self-esteem. There are 5 sentence matching worksheets in this pack! Instructions: Read the sentences on the left side of the page and match them with a sentence on the right side of the page. The sentences will fit together well. They are connected. Make a line to indicate that the 2 sentences match. One has been done for you already.

Sentence Sticking with Crafty Jolly Phonics Once your young learners know their 42 Phonic sounds and at least the first set of ‘tricky’ words, ‘sentence sticking’ could be a fun activity to try. Sentence sticking exercises are great for blending practice and ultimately building your young learners’ self-confidence. Wow! They can read sentences! Your young learners may need to use their deduction thinking skills at times, which will ultimately help to build their self-esteem. You have 10 sentence sticking sheets in this pack! Instructions: Cut out the 6 sentences at the bottom of the page. Read the sentences carefully. Then stick each sentence under its matching picture. Colour the pictures.
