KS4 Metallic Bonding and Properties of metals

(0)
A full lesson with tailored activity sheet to teach students about the structure and properties of metals and metallic bonds. This lesson uses a series of short animations and videos, each with complimentary activities, to discuss the bonding of metallic elements, and how this leads to their bonding properties. An enjoyable lesson, with great impact at imparting key ideas.
Surface area to volume ratio practical

Surface area to volume ratio practical

(1)
A lesson to compliment the teaching of surface area to volume ratio, and its effect on the rate of diffusion. This lesson takes has a maths focus of encouraging students to calculate surface area to volume ratio, and then comparing these values to the time taken for HCl to diffuse into cubes of agar gel which are soaked in phenolphthalein. Differentiated and engaging for an otherwise dry topic.
KS4 Cracking lesson
EC_TeachEC_Teach

KS4 Cracking lesson

(0)
A full lesson on cracking, taking students through the ideas of why cracking is important for supply to meet demand, to the formation and structure of alkenes, and their potential uses.
KS3 Electrical Power and Cost

KS3 Electrical Power and Cost

(0)
KS3 lesson introducing the idea of electrical power and cost. Will most likely last around 45 minutes. Can be accompanied with a worsheet to last the full hour if needed.
Metallic Bonds and Properties Worksheet

Metallic Bonds and Properties Worksheet

(1)
A worksheet for students to use to guide independent learning on the structure of metals and how this links to their properties. This ideally compliments a lesson which is available here
Mixtures Vs. Compounds

Separating mixtures and chromatography KS3

(0)
A lesson discussing different methods to separate mixtures, before leading students through simple paper chromatography. Follow up activities to the practical are included. A fun lesson with great impact.
KS4 Kinetic, Gravitational Potential, and Elastic Energy (KE, GPE, and Ee)
EC_TeachEC_Teach

KS4 Kinetic, Gravitational Potential, and Elastic Energy (KE, GPE, and Ee)

(1)
KS4 lesson taking students through the applications and uses of equations to calculate Ke, GPE, and Ee. Each equation is introduced in a way where students begin to think about the equations, and how different factors affect the amount of energy in different stores, before students begin to consider the use of equations in an exam context. Differentiated questions demanding students convert units and consider the form of their answers. What’s more, the final questions require students to interchange values between stores of GPE, Ke, and Ee.

Group 7 Halogens KS3

(3)
Lesson introducing the reactivity of halogens at KS3. Viles of Cl, Br, and I can be brought in tot he lesson to show students - practicals not recommended for safety purposes.
KS4 Properties of simple covalent molecules
EC_TeachEC_Teach

KS4 Properties of simple covalent molecules

(1)
Full lesson introducing students to the idea of a simple covalent molecule, before helping students to understand their properties. Exercises using molymods used to make very abstract ideas more concrete. An evaluative exercise is used to promote higher order thinking. Built in reflection at the end of the lesson.
Digestive System Structure and Enzymes Lessons

Digestive System Structure and Enzymes Lessons

(0)
Several lessons to take students through the structure of the digestive system, enzyme functioning, and how environmental conditions can affect the rate of enzyme action. These lessons are fully resourced, and will take students through all of the key ideas behind the digestion unit of B3, including a comprehensive review and follow up of the enzymes required practical. An enjoyable set of lessons, with high impact.
KS4 Covalent Molecules - Simple, Giant and Polymer

KS4 Covalent Molecules - Simple, Giant and Polymer

(0)
A series of approximately three lessons where students are taken through: The structure of simple covalent molecules The properties of simple covalent molecules The structure of giant covalent molecules The properties of giant covalent molecules Structures of polymers Representing the structures of polymers Forming polymers There is a theme throughout this series of lessons where students use molymods to make abstract concepts far more concrete. This aids understanding and promotes engagement throughout a topic which can be both conceptually challenging, and quite dry to teach to students.
KS4 Crude oil formation and alternative fuels

KS4 Crude oil formation and alternative fuels

(0)
A KS4 lesson covering the formation of crude oil, as well as the consequences of burning crude oil once formed. A hollistic approach to the topic where students begin to understand the disparity of timings between formation and combustion of crude oil.
Mitosis and Observing Mitosis

Mitosis and Observing Mitosis

(0)
Two lessons surrounding mitosis. Students are taken through the ideas and importance of mitosis, before considering the mechanism of mitosis. A practical lesson is then included with instructions on how to visualize mitosis in allium roots. Instructions provided by the Nuffield foundation.
Displacement reactions of metals
