This is a giant A3 sized crossword puzzle that I use to review our Ancient Egypt unit at the end of term. I usually let children work in pairs if they want to. Also, initially I won’t let them consult any resources or ask questions, just to see how far they get first. There are 30 questions in total. Here are some of the questions to give you an idea of the level required. A giant tomb built for the pharaohs of Egypt. The place where the Ancient Egyptians believed they would go after they died. A sacred building used for religious purposes. The name of the boy king whose tomb and mummy was discovered by Howard Carter. A type of writing used by the Ancient Egyptians. A small token believed to provide protection against evil or injury. A beetle that was sacred to the ancient Egyptians. Egyptian god of the afterlife. My Year 3 children do fine with this, although it does take most of them a full lesson and some homework to finish.

For example, population, capital, languages, land area, currency, religion etc. There is also a space for drawing and colouring in the flag and the background of the worksheet is a map of Asia, so children can also draw an arrow and/or colour in their chosen country. The worksheet helps children gain a broader perspective of the world and a chance to compare to their own country. It’s also a great starting point for a more in depth study of a particular country. This fact finding worksheet is made up of 10 statements about the human and physical geography of Thailand. Each statement has 1-3 blanks that the children have to fill in through either prior knowledge or researching on the internet or in books. The final section of the worksheet is a word search which contains many of the answers and other words too. Then the worksheet finished up with an open question about whether they would like to visit Thailand and why or why not. The worksheet serves as a nice introduction to various facts about Thailand and requires the children to think about what search terms to use to find the information they need effectively. I usually have the children work in pairs for this as they can bounce ideas off each other, discuss and divide the statements up between them. You can even provide a certain statement to each student in the class and then have them share their findings at the end for others to record.

This is a first person story about a volcanic eruption. Words are missing throughout the text and it’s the children’s job to fill in the blanks making sure it’s the correct part of speech (as stated in brackets) and also that it makes sense. This is an explosive Mad Lib! The first page of the document contains form fields so children can easily click and fill in the blanks. The second page is for printing off for children to fill in. Because of this, the worksheet is suitable for children to complete either online or offline. *Please note: The form functions don’t work in Google Docs, so it’s best to share the lined version instead. * Mad libs are a great way for children to personalise stories whilst learning about parts of speech and proper grammatical structure! A crossword puzzle for reviewing the process of the water cycle. It’s A3 size so it’s great for pairs or small groups to work together on. You could always print as A4 if needs be though. Available as both an editable DOC and PDF. There are 28 question in total. Here are a few examples of the clues inside: A large body of fresh water. When water flows off a surface. Water as a solid. Floating chunks of ice in the sea. I see how far the children are able to get through it before letting them use their books to help out.

On this A3 worksheet, children create a key and colour in the countries on the map of South America. Except for the map, this document is fully editable. Instructions: a) Write down the names of the 12 countries found in S. America in the key below. b) Assign a different colour for each country and then colour in the corresponding location on the map of S. America. c) Draw on some of the key natural landmarks, for example, the Amazon River, the Andes etc. You could also have the children label the capital cities for each country and/or the oceans.

This fun activity lets children explore that classic deserted island scenario. It presents pictures of 16 items from which the children have to choose three to take with them to be stranded with. They must explain verbally or in writing why they have chosen these items. The children could even suggest why other items would not be worth having. It’s worth encouraging the children to think of alternate uses for the items they have chosen too. This works both as an individual activity and as a group activity to promote effective communication between members.

Instructions for colouring and labeling various parts of both ancient and modern Egypt. A blank map can easily be found on Google Images to go with this. The children in my class use both traditional atlases and Google Earth to complete the exercise. Afterwards they can add in illustrations or further locations of interest.
