Coming from an accounting background, in 2004 I changed career direction to teach Key Skills across a varied vocational curriculum in a college of further education. This developed to Functional Skills in 2009. Here I gained something of a reputation for developing quality resources based on 'real world' scenarios. In 2015 I started Sumstuff to share these with other tutors and have since progressed to developing assessments for a leading awarding body. In addition I have been retained by OCR as a moderator of Functional Skills English. I believe that there is a shortage of good quality resources for Functional Skills which is symptomatic of a culture that does not fully appreciate the value of FS. I hope to go a little way towards changing this.
