This literacy starter resource contains 20 different starter activities. It provides a range of starters across a variety of literacy genres. It has tasks related to spelling, grammar, writing and listening & talking. The starter aims to revise and consolidate common issues which revise in literacy for learner in KS2. It looks at issues such as homophones, proof reading, direct speech and many other areas. All activities are short and can be completed on whiteboards. Many starters also contain a challenge task for more able learners. It contains 20 different starter activities.

This resource can be used to encourage children to practise their french greetings and introductions. Each child is given a card with a character. There are a number of games you can play with these cards e.g. FInd your pair, find someone the same age, find someone who lives in the same country or other characters born in the same month. These cards can be used in multiple French lessons such as names, ages, locations and birthdays.

This resource works best with an interactive whiteboard that learners can write on. It can also be adapted for use on Seesaw or other online platforms. This resource begins with a time conversions starter quiz on units of time. It then begins by explaining the key differences between 12 and 24 hour time. It then provides digital clocks for learners to practise converting between the two different formats. It has ten practice questions for learners to try independently. Finally, it progress to using analogue and digital clocks and writing times in both 12 and 24 hour format. This challenges learners and provides good assessment of which areas of time learners find challenging. A template for these slides is available which can be printed for learners to write on directly either with pencil or work well with smart pals or wallets.

This writing lesson teaches and models how to use figurative and descriptive writing to create a spooky setting. It models an example for learners and contains a planning page for learners to plan their own writing in a setting of their choice.

This resource encourages learners to describe halloween characters through the use of descriptive and figurative language. It then builds up to the learners creating their or own or describing a well known character. Lesson includes a planning page that can be printed.

This is a great resource for helping pupils to reflect on 2023 and also set targets and goals for 2024. These can be school related goals or personal goals. It uses simple child friendly language with sentence prompts like I hope that… I want to… My goal is… I want to… Pupils can then colour and cut this out and it makes a lovely display. Tip - add a photo of the child to the balloon to make it more personalised.

This writing resource works well along the RSPB Bird Watch which takes place this time of year. Whether children are actively bird watching outside or simply learning about birds around them, it is a great way to engage with nature. This lesson models for learners how to research four different birds and take notes in their jotter. It then demonstrates how to turn these short notes into engaging sentences for their reader. Finally it models for learners how they can lay this out neatly in their jotter and include some of the key features of an information text like headings, subheadings, pictures and captions.

This Chinese New Year is the year of the dragon so the writing focus is going to be on a character description of a Chinese Dragon. This resource explains the five different aspects of a character that pupils should describe in order to successfully convey their character to their reader. It also provides a modelled text, and a table worksheet for them to record examples of each aspect from the text. This will help give them inspiration for their own story. This resource includes the main lesson, the recording table and the planning page. I have also included a printed copy of the texts which could be printed out for pupils.
