This lesson carries on for the previous four lessons to teach the basics of spreadsheets. The focus here is on using IFs and conditional formatting to create self marking quiz. The files also contain a teacher exemplar to use with the class and a step by step presentation for students to follow. Learning Objectives • Understand how to use the IF function to create a quiz • Know how to protect cells so that only the owner of the document can edit parts of it The aim of all my resources is to provide lessons / activities of good quality that will add value to your lessons / schemes of work. Spreadsheets Lesson 7 to 10 - Spreadsheet Battleships -Excel or Google Sheets -KS 3 Computing / ICT

(0)
This lesson puts together all the learning from the previous 6 lessons in the Spreadsheets Basics Series into a practical task to create a battleships game using a spreadsheet to make use of formatting techniques, Averages, Max, Min, IFs, Conditional Formatting. I normally use this with KS3. I have also include a student example which has a Star Wars theme rather than the traditional battleships theme. This is a great activity that involves some quite complex use of Spreadsheet principles so there is a teacher exemplar to show each stage and a video to show the teacher / students what to do if they get stuck. The extension tasks are very tricky and should stretch the most able students.

Spreadsheets Basics 6 - Functions - Averages, Max, Min - KS 3 Computing / ICT

This is lesson six of the Spreadsheet basics series of lessons. This gets students to understand how to use functions in order to do simple calculations (SUM, AVERAGE, MAX, MIN) for a class of students with a mark-sheet for a fictional class. There is an advanced version of the mark-sheet for those super fast students which also needs them to work out how to calculate ranges and relies on earlier taught content on this course which required them to convert scores to percentages. The lesson comes with teacher exemplars to use with students and a step by step presentation Learning Objectives: • Know how to use the SUM, AVERAGE, MIN and MAX functions • Understand how to speed up setting up spreadsheets with Copy and Paste This Download includes: Presentation Two practical tasks allowing for differentiation Teacher model answers for both tasks This resource has enough for 2 lessons X 50 minutes with extension tasks for those students that get through their tasks quicker than all the rest

4 bit and 8 bit Binary Worksheets

These are converting Binary to Decimal and Decimal to Binary. Also included are the teacher answer sheets and as these worksheets randomly generate the questions (and answers) whenever you make a change to a blank cell on the work sheet, these can be used to generate different versions of the quiz which students can self mark very easily (I stick the answers to different versions on the walls of the classroom for students to self check) My resources vision: As with all of my resources, a full answer key is included to absolutely minimise teacher prep time. Please comment with any feedback, suggestions or improvements!
