This is a twenty-two page PowerPoint that is designed to be used with learners who are due to complete their English Functional Skills writing examination. It is designed for L1 and L2 learners and is entitled: Review Writing The PowerPoint is a step-by-step guide of how to format and write different types of reviews. At the end of the presentation, there are two review writing tasks for learners to attempt. For one of the review writing tasks, I have given on-screen ‘tips’ on how to plan the content of the review and how to ‘expand’ a draft version of the text, in order to raise the learners word count and to also make it more engaging for the reader. The PowerPoints contents include: How to write a review How to format a review What to include in a review Sample assessment questions How to plan your review’s content and how to ‘expand’ your writing There is also a booklet attached which includes a review template and contains the two writing tasks that can be also viewed in the PowerPoint.

This quiz will test your learner’s knowledge of the novel. Once they have read the entire novel, get them to grab their white boards and try to answer each multiple choice question. There are 23 questions for learners to answer which are from chapter 1 to chapter 12 of the novel.

An English Reading Comprehension Activity. This resource gives the learner an overview of the TV show Squid Game. Learners will read the text and then answer twelve skimming and scanning questions based on this document. Answers are provided so that learners can self mark. This would suit Functional skills E3 learners.

Character Analysis Worksheet. The learner will pick one of the characters from a book they are reading and then create a Facebook profile for that character. They will fill in all of the information that they know about them from the book and add other additional presumed information of their own. They will also write a status that sums up what that character is feeling at a particular moment in the book. A fun character analysis activity.

A fifteen question multiple choice quiz. Students will be given a each from each poem and must write down on the white board which poem it is from. Answers are given on the PPT once they have answered the question. This PPT was used as part of a revision session. I displayed a piece of context on the interactive white board from the PPT. Each piece related to one of the fifteen poems in the anthology. We read through the slide as a class and they were then asked which poem the information related to. They would then write the contextual information in their exercise books to be used for revision purposes. The information is off free resources I found during Google searches. I then compiled it into this PPT.
