Day of the Dead is a two day Mexican celebration where the dead are honored and remembered. It is a time of joy and happiness, skulls are an important feature of the celebration and are seen everywhere. This resource includes 3 skull colouring pages of varying difficulty. I have successfully used these skulls with years 3, 4,5 and 6 to create masks and bunting and also as templates for foam printing but they could also be used by both younger and older children for a variety of activities. Children will complete one activity that focuses on shapes and letters and one that tasks children to create an ‘I love… poster’ in the iconic style of Peter Blake. This resource is great for helping children to get to know each other and it works well as cover lesson material too. Just basic art materials are needed- a pencil and something to colour with. This Remembrance Day themed art activity explores the four different colours of poppies that are currently in use (red black,purple and white) . Children will first learn about the colour and meaning of each poppy before designing their own version which could be used to represent all groups. Once designed the poppies could be cut out and made into a wreath or other display. William Morris was a British designer who lived in the 19th Century. He is most famous for his beautiful fruit and floral designs which were used to create wallpaper and home furnishings. His designs are still very popular today and can be found on cups, clothing, notebooks and many other items. This resource is ideal for children to use when learning about the life and work of William Morris. They can be used as design inspiration, information and decoration. The Great Wave off Kanagawa is a woodblock print by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai. It is one of the most famous pieces of Japanese art. This resource will enable children to look closely at the artwork, consider the details and notice the colours before honing their colouring in skills. This resource has been made for you to use during Children’s Mental Health Week (6th - 12th February). The theme for this year is ‘Let’s Connect’. More information about the event can be found at: www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk The aim of this activity is for children to think about the connections that they have with others. when children have healthy connections with others it makes them feel good about themselves and have a sense of belonging. Connections can also be with places, pets and activities. When children lack healthy connections it can lead to feelings of isolation and poor mental health. In this activity children will first think about the connections that they have with others, they will then add colour to the pipes and background and write their connections on different sections of the pipes. The artwork squares can then be cut out and the children can connect their pipes together with the rest of the class -making a lovely display for mental health week and showing the children how they all fit together and connect with each other as a class. Minimal art supplies are needed- just something to colour with and scissors. This resource has been designed for KS2 but it could also be used with other age groups depending on ability.
