This concise revision lesson reminds students of the rules around naming compounds and then challenges them to apply this knowledge. The lesson has been primarily designed for those students taking GCSE foundation tier, but is suitable for higher tier too.

The lesson begins with a challenge to complete the definition of a compound and then to select the compounds from a list also containing elements and mixtures. Students are then reminded of the rules when the formula contains 2 elements or 3 elements and active modelling is used to show a range of examples. Understanding checks are used to allow the students to assess their understanding and answers to all are embedded into the PowerPoint.

This lesson has been designed for use in the lead up to end of topic tests, mocks, or actual GCSE examinations and should only take a maximum of 20 minutes.
