This resource contains an engaging, 35-slide PowerPoint presentation that is ideal for an assembly. It asks pupils to choose between two things. Examples include:
Xbox or PlayStation
pizza or burger
Coronation Street or EastEnders
sweets or chocolate
Ed Sheeran or Shawn Mendes
football or rugby
The pupils are asked to make a choice between a white van or a red sports car. However, there is no sports car - as it is an ‘optical illusion’ - the car is ‘painted’ on the van.
Further optical illusions are introduced. There is also a hyperlink to an entertaining ‘optical illusion dance’ by teachers.
A pupil choice sheet is also included. The choices could be made in different ways, individually, with a partner or in a small group.
There are also slides about optical illusions which contain messages which could form the basis of new year’s resolutions on how we see and interact with others.
The main messages are:
What we see and what is actually happening is not always the same and sometimes we jump to wrong conclusions - as exemplified in images that appear to be moving but are not.
We do not always see things from other people’s point of view - as exemplified in the young lady / old woman image.
We do not always see the good things in people or situations - as exemplified in the ‘good / evil’ image.
We sometimes put ourselves first instead of others - as exemplified in the me/you illusion image.
Please note, the watermark is only visible on the previews and not the resource itself.
