Preterit tense -ar, -er, -ir basic conjugation practice

For each infinitive type (-ar, -er, -ir), there are 2 parts.

Part 1: Complete the table below with the stem, appropriate verb ending, and the preterit tense conjugation. (Students will use the infinitive Hablar, Comer, Escribir)

Part 2: Complete the table with the appropriate stem, verb ending, and conjugation for each infinitive. (Students will use 10 different -ar, -er, -ir

infinitives)

Example:

Template: Infinitive + Subject + Stem + Verb ending + Conjugation

  1. Mirar : Yo + Mir + é + Miré

Page 4: Clue words matching: Write the correct letter of the English translation. (16 total)

Example:

c. Last night / d.Yesterday

_____ 1. Ayer

_____ 2. Anoche

Page 1: -AR verbs / Page 2: -ER verbs / Page 3: -IR verbs / Page 4: Clue words matching

*A table with -ar, -er, -ir preterit tense endings is included.

Answer key is included on pages 5-8. This practice can be used for classwork, homework, review, quiz, study guide, entry / exit slip. It can also be used to introduce how to conjugate infinitives in the preterit.
