This resource accompanies students through the journalistic classic Relato de un náufrago (Story of a Shipwrecked Sailor) by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

The resource has a separate section for each of the fourteen chapters of the book, as well as a section for the introduction.

For each chapter, there is a Preparation part, which includes a grid of useful vocabulary and a research task, which encourages students to use the internet to find out something that will help them understand the context of the story.

Following this, there is an Understanding part, which consists of simple comprehension questions in English, to be answered in English. These follow the course of the text, so students can answer the questions as they read. This will help them to take in the story and understand the main points. There are also some translation exercises in this part, encouraging students to translate key elements of the text that are essential for them to understand.

Next, there is an Analysis part, which includes a few analytical questions in Spanish, to be answered in Spanish, to help students reflect on what is going on.

Finally, there are vocabulary exercises throughout the resource, helping students to memorize helpful words.

The answers are included for the comprehension questions, translation exercises and vocabulary exercises.
