La nourriture - Card Game Bundle

La nourriture - Card Game Bundle

These games are designed to practice the French vocabulary for food, drinks, fruits and vegetables along with the verbs eat, drink, want, like . Print the document one-sided, laminate it and cut out the cards. Distribute all the cards randomly to the students. Select a student to begin by reading his card out loud and then putting it down. The other students listen attentively to each question, answer it if they have the answer card and then they read the next question. The game is over when all the cards are down. It is a great game to practice the newly taught vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills.

La nourriture - Qui aime? - Légumes - Card Game

La nourriture - Qui aime? - Légumes - Card Game

This game is a French version of the classic " I have… Who has …? " game, designed to practice the names of the vegetables and the verb “like”. This is an easy-to-play game and a great way to practice essential language concepts with the whole class. As students match up the answers on their cards with questions on other students’ cards, they get valuable practice with vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills. Directions: Cut out the cards along the dotted line and laminate. For bigger classes, you might want to print several copies of each set. Give out all the cards in the set to the students. It is important to use all the cards. Choose a student to go first. I usually do that by a counting rhyme. Have the selected student read the question at the bottom of the card aloud and then put the card down. The student who has the card with the answer then reads that answer aloud. This student will then read the question at the bottom of their card and put the card down. Play continues in this fashion until all of the cards have been played. The game will end with the same student who started play. Every card in the set is connected to a card before it and a card after it. To keep the game moving at a quick pace, all students need to pay attention to every question that has been asked. I tell my younger students that this is a magic game and that the magic only works if you pay attention, which is actually true. The magic happens in the end, when the question on the last card actually matches the answer on the very first card. Enjoy!

French: Les Fruits Smoothie Challenge (NEW extra: les fruits PowerPoint)

French: Les Fruits Smoothie Challenge (NEW extra: les fruits PowerPoint)

*NEW EXTRA: I have added a fruit PowerPoint to bring more value to the resource. * Pupils race against the clock and each other to find the meaning of 22 fruits. Task 1: work on your won to find as many of the words as you can in the allocated time (teacher to set classroom timer and provide dictionaries). Task 2: work with a partner to share answers in the allocated time. Task 3: circulate the classroom and exchange words with others in an attempt to fill in the blanks (at this point I offer my own services and offer one exchange with each pupil- they have usually left the trickier ones to the end and might need you to support in this way in order to translate all 22). Most are fruit, some are liquids- enabling them to create a simple but delicious fruit smoothie. Task 4: select 5 ingredients for a fruit smoothie (you could reward the winner). Great for developing dictionary skills; increasing vocabulary; encouraging pupil interaction and using language creatively. 3 sheets are provided- 2 in colour (a pink version and a blue version) and 1 in black and white.

French: Sports (Powerpoint, activities and games for several lessons)

French: Sports (Powerpoint, activities and games for several lessons)

This powerpoint introduces lots of sports voacbulary in French. Pleanty of opportunities to practise the vocabulary and play games such as 'beat the teacher', 'hit the board' and 'be the teacher'. There are then lots of activities and games including the ever-popular points game which can be played in teams (and differentiated by doubling points for those that give full sentences etc). Match up included, filling in words, and labelling pictures. These slides can also be printed and used as worksheets. Powerpoint then goes on to introducing fuller sentences giving opinions about sports and then grammatical points. Overall enough to last for a few lessons and then again for revision - games can be made increasingly complex.

French Board Game: Sports

French Board Game: Sports

A game board to practise nouns and simple sentences. 2 versions included for differentiation purposes. Answer key included (so pupils work independently). Great to introduce sports in a novel way- give them the board game and a dictionary and it is a really fun way to challenge them to learn sports nouns. Use it as follow up once you have introduced the vocabulary as it is an excellent way of practising speaking and listening skills. Other important features: pupil independence, pupil collaboration, challenge and competition. I always have 100% engagement when I give them a board game (I have others available). A rewarding way to differentiate- what better incentive to complete the task than to know you can play a game at the end! No need to cut anything- just print. A4 is fine, A3 is great. Add dice and counters. (I get pupils to use spare coins for counters and lots of them have dice roll app on their phones these days if you are struggling for these). Any feedback is always gratefully received and if you have any requests for future board games please send me a message.
