German directions

Introduce the directions in German and give pupils the handouts for note-taking. There is also a completed handout for weaker pupils, so they can concentrate on the presentation. Then pupils complete the worksheet and finish the lesson with noughts and crosses. There is also a hangman starter for the following lesson!

When you click on the red line underneath a letter (if it’s correctly guessed), it will reveal the letter. In this presentation, the German direction phrases are pre-populated, which you will see when you open the presentation. To reveal the whole answer, click on “Reveal”. If the letter is wrong, click on one of the sections of the ‘hangman’ to the left. It will then turn red.

Treasure Hunt - Places in Town and Directions

Treasure Hunt - Places in Town and Directions

A fun game that can be used to practise speaking about places in town and giving directions. Works best if there are prizes for finding the treasures! There are 5 maps with streets and town buildings (church, hospital ect) and three hidden treasure per slide. Students have to guess where the treasure is by naming the place of giving directions there, when you click on the place it reveals either an empty space or a treasure. The third slide turns the whole game into a race between different teams. In stronger classes they could practise prepositions and cases/genders (in der Kirche/ au stade ect) The last two slides are more detailed to practise more complex directions like ‘over the bridge’, ‘at the traffic light’ ect.

Community map - for practicing directions, mapping skills and foreign languages

Community map - for practicing directions, mapping skills and foreign languages

This map is great for students to practice directions. I suggest laminating a bunch and having your students use them to practice directions and prepositions. Mini dinky cars bought at Dollarama or Walmart will fit on the roads. Students love driving around on the streets. Use as a listening mark. - Can students arrive at your location? Use it as a speaking mark. - Can students explain directions from one place to another? Great for à + le/la/l'/les or prepositions and de + le/la/l'/les ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Some or all of the graphics in this resource came from Poppydreamz Digital Art.
