The plan gives details of a starter, how to teach the vocabulary, a whole class listening activity, a speaking activity, a writing activity and a plenary. It is highly interactive and allows children to practise a range of language skills. Resources needed for the lesson are included in the price. Environment Guided Translation Picture Puzzle

Environment Guided Translation Picture Puzzle

A guided translation on the topic of the environment, where if pupils pick the correct option for each word, a picture emerges. For each word to be translated, there are options in French (a, b, c etc). These letters correspond to different colours to be used to colour in a square on the grid. At the end, the whole translation can be written out as a paragraph. Pupils can then set their own picture puzzle for a friend using the paragraph as a model. The translation is about protecting unicorns, so it is easily adapted to write about other animals hunted for their horns such as elephants, rhinos or narwhal. This can be a useful writing exercise if you are working on the topic of the environment. It can also be set as a stand-alone activity as pupils can often deduce the correct answer even if it is unfamiliar, because they can eliminate the incorrect alternatives.

There is an assessment for pupils to complete, which will take 2-3 lessons. The assessment is based on producing an Estate Agents brochure for selling a house. French - Protect the environment display lesson

French - Protect the environment display lesson

This is a presentation for an alternative curriculum day. Any age group can do it, but you would need to adjust the end task to make it harder for older pupils. I used this with pupils from high-ability Year 7 up to Year 9. Pupils are introduced to the vocab needed for the display (switch off lights, put rubbish in the bin, etc).
