Pathogens and Disease Fortune Teller Game (New AQA GCSE Biology 4.3.1)

This resource contains 3 fortune teller templates that can be used as revision for the students. They can ask each other the questions or test themselves to see how much they have learnt. These are easy to make and effective as revision or for plenaries in the classroom. Students in my classroom enjoyed testing each other on what they have learnt and found it an interesting way to help with their memory.

(I)GCSE Photosynthesis Formative Assessment Task

(I)GCSE Photosynthesis Formative Assessment Task

A formative assessment task which can take 2 lessons or be set as a homework. I set this before the end of topic test to allow students time to clarify the ideas behind the unit. Students can use their text books and tablets but the work must be explained in their own words. I have included the criteria to include in the poster and the mark scheme which would be used to grade the work. This works well as a peer assessment as well as a teacher assessed task.

The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

AQA new specification-Exchanging materials-B1.10

AQA new specification-Exchanging materials-B1.10

Exchanging materials lesson created in accordance to the NEW AQA Specification (9-1). Designed for a higher ability separates class, although content can be adjusted to suit any ability. Includes: slide animations, practice questions with answers on slides, worksheet, and homework (with MS) AQA spec link: 4.1.3.1 Relevant chapter: B1 Cell structure and transport. AQA Biology third edition textbook-Page 22-23 Specification requires students to know the following; A single-celled organism has a relatively large surface area to volume ratio. This allows sufficient transport of molecules into and out of the cell to meet the needs of the organism. Students should be able to calculate and compare surface area to volume ratios. Students should be able to explain the need for exchange surfaces and a transport system in multicellular organisms in terms of surface area to volume ratio. Students should be able to explain how the small intestine and lungs in mammals, gills in fish, and the roots and leaves in plants, are adapted for exchanging materials. In multicellular organisms, surfaces and organ systems are specialised for exchanging materials. This is to allow sufficient molecules to be transported into and out of cells for the organism’s needs. The effectiveness of an exchange surface is increased by: •• having a large surface area •• a membrane that is thin, to provide a short diffusion path •• (in animals) having an efficient blood supply •• (in animals, for gaseous exchange) being ventilated.

Looks back at transporting of substances, covers exam style questions and gives questions on the core practical of the algae balls!* I made this revision mat by hand. I couldn't find much in terms on revision so decided to made one that combines everything for 'plant structures and their functions' in the combined science course (Biology 2 topic 6) . Students found it very useful in helping them to revise - it took them all lesson to complete. I have also made one for the topic of health and disease, radioactivity, energy and forces plus electrolysis!

Number Bonds - multiples of ten

Number Bonds - multiples of ten

Getting to know your number bonds to ten is one thing. Getting to know all the times and situations that they will help you when doing maths is another. This game allows students to practise these skills regularly to help them get the hang of how to use them in a different situation. Students will start to see the importance of the ones or units place in calculations. To add to it all, they will also become familiar with Prime Colours which can help with all things to do with multiplication and proportion.
