Travel Training SEN - Help for Travelling by Bus PowerPoint
This is a PowerPoint presentation, which can also be printed out as an information booklet.
It covers topics, such as:
How to dress appropriately for the weather
How to hail the bus
What to do if you miss the bus
What to do if you miss your stop
Who to contact if there is a problem
What to do if you feel overwhelmed while on the bus
What to do if you get lost
It is perfect for SEN students, Entry Level 1 to Level 2, to help support them in Travel Training sessions, so they can feel confident and gain independence.
Travel Training SEN Travel Strategies Worksheet
This is a resource that I use with SEN students that require Travel Training sessions.
I usually use this after the Initial Assessment, so the students can share any concerns they have around travelling on public transport.
They also have to think of the benefits to using public transport (independence etc.) and what travel strategies they can use to help them (fidget toys, music on headphones etc.)
Travel Training SEN Initial Assessment
This is an Initial Assessment that I use with SEN students who require Travel Training sessions.
The student fills in the assessment to gauge what the students are/are not confident with in regards to travelling on public transport (buses and the Metro or Tube).
This information can then be used to inform Travel Training session content.
I usually get the students to redo the assessment later in the year to determine the progress made.
Easily adapted from Metro to Tube if needed.
Travel Training SEN Scavenger Hunt
This is a resource I use with students that require Travel Training sessions.
This is a fun activity to do with students as a break from regular Travel Training sessions.
Students can complete a photography scavenger hunt, where they have to practice their road safety skills whilst walking around their local area, taking photographs of a variety of things, such as a round-a-bout or zebra crossing.
Feel free to delete any options that are not relevant to your local area, or add others in.
Travel Training SEN Journey Planner Organisational Chart
This is a journey planner organisational chart which can be used for SEN students who require Travel Training sessions.
Entry Level 1 to Level 2 students.
It includes what the students need to consider in regards to planning travel on buses, taxis and the Metro (or Tubes/Trams).
I use this in my Travel Training sessions, so students can independently plan a journey on public transport, learning valuable transferable skills.
Travel Training SEN Road Safety Quiz
I use this resource with students that require Travel Training sessions.
This is a short road safety quiz, with statistical information provided by the World Health Organisation about road traffic injuries in youths.
It also provides information on how to cross the road safely.

I use this resource for students completing the NOCN (National Open College Network) E3 Knowing Your Local Area course.
Tutors can use the 3 evidence assessment sheets to state what evidence is provided in the students portfolios, when students have completed paperwork for their NOCN Knowing Your Local Area Entry Level 3 course.

At the beginning of the year, the students state what their EHCP travel training goal is and how they will achieve it in sessions.
This resource is then used to review progress and achievement half way through the year and again at the end of the year.

Travel Training SEN Give Way Chicane Display Poster
This is a display poster which can be shown/displayed to students that require Travel Training sessions.
The poster explains the necessity of good road safety skills when crossing the road at a chicane/give way and that cars may not be stopping to let you cross.
Travel Training SEN EHCP Witness Statement
I use this resource for students that require Travel Training sessions.
I use this resource in conjunction with the EHCP Goal Evidence Log sheet, where tutors or learning support assistants can write a witness statement when students have made progress towards their Travel Training related EHCP goal.
