Revision clocks are a great resource for any classroom and allow students of differing abilities, in all Key Stages, to effectively recap material and identify gaps in their knowledge. Revision clocks give students an opportunity to retrieve knowledge on a chosen topic within a certain time restraint. For example, using the 5 minute template, students fill out one section of the diagram with as much information as they can remember about a chosen topic (no notes or books to help). If they are beginning to struggle during the 5 minutes and they can’t remember any more, then they pick up their notebook and using a different coloured pen, they add in the information they left out. This helps students to identify the gaps in their knowledge and aid their revision going forward. I have used this with Key Stage 3 students as well as students sitting GCSE and Alevel exams (the longer time periods are better for these older groups).
