Emotional Health and Anxiety (PowerPoint, Printables & Discussion Cards)

(0)
Are you concerned about the emotional health of your students? We all want our students to be healthy, and so we teach them about good nutrition and exercise. Fair enough! But what about their emotional health? I don’t know about you, but over the last few years especially, I have noticed more and more students suffering from feelings of anxiety. They’re struggling to manage these overwhelming emotions that are stemming from cultural changes of modern life. Academic stress (that is starting younger and younger), personal life and the pressures of social media are all playing their role and taking their toll. So, in an effort to help my students, and yours too, I have created this unit on Emotional Health which explores all the emotions that we feel and how a build up of them can sometimes lead to anxiety, as well as strategies for dealing with them. No prior knowledge or experience from you is required! Everything is laid out for you ready to teach. The PowerPoint guides you through each point of the lesson with plenty of discussion points and activities to keep students engaged and reflecting on their learning. Also included are graphic organizer printables which are supplementary to the PowerPoint: they’re not a requirement, but they work as a helpful tool for students to record their thoughts in an aesthetically pleasing way that can then be used for bulletin board displays etc. You will also find a set of discussion cards for students to discuss the topic of emotions and get the conversation going about something that is rarely talked about openly. This unit can be used as whole group, small group, or even for 1:1 counselling. Product includes: • 24 slide PowerPoint • 11 printables of graphic organizers • 6 scenarios to analyze • 24 discussion cards Students will learn: • To identify different types of emotions • What emotions are and why we have them • Why people have different emotions to the same scenario • How understanding emotions can help us • Helpful vs unhelpful emotions • What to do when an emotion is unhelpful • What to do when emotions are overwhelming • Physical and emotional effects of anxiety • Worries and concerns that can cause anxiety • How to help ease anxiety • Short term and long term strategies for anxiety Let’s break the stigma on openly talking about emotions and feelings. It doesn’t have to be something done in therapy alone, we all have emotions and our students need to learn why we have them and how we can manage them too. I have found teaching this unit is effective in morning meetings with tutor / advisory classes or as whole life skills lessons too, depending on how much time you can allocate. It is such a valuable topic to talk to our students about. Thank you for all you do to make a difference in young peoples’ lives! Great for Social Skills, Life skills and PSHE (Physical, Social, Health Education) lessons.

Cyber Bullying Awareness: Posters, Task Cards & Activities

(1)
Do you want to educate your students about the dangers of Cyber Bullying? It is a rising problem among teenagers and young people in this age of social media, so this resource will offer your students the opportunity to consider the dangers and effects of cyber bullying by encouraging them to discuss and reflect on realistic scenarios. I have used this resource on different groups of students from year 7-10 and it has proven effective for all ages. It’s interesting that each age group has brought out its own conversations from this resource. I find it shocking how many young people (especially those below the required age of 13 to even have a social media account) are suffering from cyber bullying online and don’t yet have the skills to handle it. This resource has made a significant difference to my students and I can only hope they go on to spread the word to others! I hope that my resources save you hours and hours of time: something we always sacrifice so much of as teachers. ❤

UCAS / Job Reference Writing Guide

(0)
If you are a form tutor or are required to write a reference for your students, then this resource will really help you out! This should help make the process of writing UCAS / Job references for your students much easier for you, whilst giving your students the opportunity to take ownership of their reference. This is especially helpful if you are a new tutor and haven’t had the opportunity to learn much about your students yet, as they will tell you everything you need to know with this resource! Oftentimes, students can be very modest with their achievements and abilities and so this resource will really help to tease out their best qualities enabling you to simply lift content from their notes into your own reference. This is a 2 page resource which could be printed double sided. One side is for students to fill out and the other is a guide with some examples to help direct them and ensure they consider all their achievements and qualities. I hope this saves you lots of time and makes the reference writing process much smoother and more efficient!

Gratitude Journal - 52 prompts for a whole year

(0)
Teaching Character Education? Showing gratitude has been proven to increase long-term well-being, improve health, relationships, emotions and help us bounce back from stressful experiences. With the significant increase in stress and anxiety among our young people, it is more important than ever that as teachers, we are catering to our students’ emotional needs in the classroom. This Gratitude Journal is the ideal way to help our students focus on the good aspects of their life and to appreciate their blessings – every one of us has something to be thankful for and this journal will be sure to highlight it! The journal contains 52 prompts, one for each week of the year. Each prompt is unique and encourages reflection on a wide range of life experiences, allowing for much more creativity and diversity in thinking and responses. It is not labelled by month or date so can be started at any time in the year – new starts don’t have to only begin on January 1st, and gratitude isn't just for Thanksgiving! You can let students take them home to complete as a private activity, or it can be done in school maybe at the start of the week as a Monday Morning Meeting. You will receive both a PRINTABLE and DIGITAL version to suit your needs! The digital one is ideal for opening up on Google Slides as it can be completed and looked at on any device, whenever and wherever! P.S. It’s also great for teachers too: we can all take time to have an attitude of gratitude!
