This lesson teaches students the STILT(s) acronym for poetry comparison, this could be used to teach comparison skills as well as teaching specific comparison points on these two poems from the Edexcel Relationship Collection. The lesson is challenging and aims to take students grades to the top levels. It includes engaging 'thunks', activities, guidance, exemplar paragraphs and guided questions and processes that could be applied to other pairs of poems. This lesson is an excellent introduction the feminist background and theory, it uses an extract from Charlotte Gilman Perkins 'The Yellow Wallpaper' and leads students through a feminist reading of the text. This lesson includes references and explanations of 'Herstory' and 'L'ecriture Feminine' and proved highly progressive with my year 12 students.

This lesson takes you through the links between Marilyn Monroe and this play text ensuring that students can discuss this in the context of the themes that this play throws up. This lesson draws on engaging activities, such as quote finds, parallel timelines, research tasks and a quiz that demands higher level thinking. Literary terminology is encouraged throughout to ensure students familiarise with this during teaching.

These resources introduce students to the themes contained in this text, explores the characterisation of Silas Marner and uses some engaging kinaesthetic activities (Human Weaving Machine and Court Room) to capture the imaginations of students who might find studying 19th century fiction more difficult. Chapter 2 is also included here and concentrates predominantly on teaching students 'how to' analyse extracts at GCSE level. This is a choice novel to study to begin to introduce the demands of the GCSE (9-1) curriculum. The narrative is highly relevant to teenagers and wider societal issues and throws up a huge range of opportunities for close analysis. In this resource activiities are courted in games/activities that are fun, supported and differentiated. There are close studies of characters, themes and links between earlier sections of the novel and this one. Consideration of language and structure is fundamental to all lines of enquiry.
