This can be used as a stand alone lesson or as the introductory lesson in the Fantastic places SoW. It looks at the amazing India city of Hampi and launches an investigation as to why the city is surrounded by boulders. The students will investigate two ideas: Science and Religion and will need to explain why they believe one over the other. They will also be encouraged to create their own original explanation. A fun lesson with lots to do.

A fun lesson that is a good way to complete a unit on Tectonic Hazards (Earthquakes and Volcanoes) that allows pupils to make a creative piece of writing about tectonic hazards. This lesson includes a worksheet to help the pupils to write poems about Earthquakes or Volcanoes. It also includes some example poems to act as an example. This lesson has been observed more than once as has consistently been rated as outstanding. It looks at The North Pole (the Arctic), it’s history, it’s future and what it is like to live there. This lesson uses the ‘Home and Away’ groups technique - where students are put into ‘home’ groups, then split up again to become experts in one topic(away groups), they then get together again into their ‘home’ group and teach the rest of their group what they have learned. This is the end of unit assessment for my fantastic places SoW. It is set up like a GCSE paper but designed for KS3 students. It includes a differentiated version, source booklet and mark scheme. This can be used and adapted to make your own similar assessments. A really useful resource.

This resource is designed to be used with the Fantastic places SoW (in my shop), but it can be adapted to other SoW or to other fantastic places! As the students work through the unit they complete the passport to sum up what they have learned and add the information to the booklet. The passport also contains seven h/w tasks to be used throughout the unit.

An important lesson as these people may be some of the last who are able to live their lives in this way. The students have really enjoyed this lesson whenever I have taught this lesson.

This lesson looks at Easter Island and how the greed and stupidity of it’s people nearly destroyed the island. This is an important story and can teach us lessons about the world we live in today. The students will get a chance to practice their analytical skills and will have a deeper look at the history of Easter Island. The students will get a chance to practice their geographical writing and will have a deeper look at the Rio carnival. This lesson can be used as a one off lesson or as part of a larger unit of work. I use it as part of a longer unit called ‘Fantastic Places’ (available as a SoW in my shop) which is essentially an introductory unit to geography. This lesson looks at the wonderful African wilderness of Madagascar and gets the students to investigate two of it’s most famous residents: Lemurs and Sharks. A fun and informative lesson that will leave the students thirsting for more (geography!)

A useful lesson that teaches the students how to use scale on a personal, local, national and international level. This lesson is aimed at KS3 but could easily be adapted for KS2 or KS4. It is a skills based lesson focused on encouraging students to learn how to use scale on different levels.

This lesson combines the use of geographical sketch drawing with labelling so students are able to make field sketches. This lesson helps to teach the pupils how to write using geographical terminology. Aimed at KS3 it would also work well for KS2. It helps to teach the pupils the correct use of geographical terms and how to use them. A well planned and well paced lesson,

A good lesson that enables the students to think about how the world intereacts on a local, national and international scale. An interesting KS3 lesson that is designed to introduce students to geography and bring it to life. This is designed to introduce students to geographical skills and concepts that they will build on in future lessons. An enjoyable and well paced lesson that builds on pupils prior knowledge. It includes homework tasks.

This is an essential lesson for every KS3 student! An excellent lesson that teaches the students where to find many of the key features of the world (oceans, continents, mountain ranges etc.) as well as how to accurately describe their location. A useful lesson especially for students who think Africa is a country!

This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.
