Introduction lesson to Voting Behaviour and the Media This lesson introduces students to the concept of studying voting behaviour and examines factors which may affect voting behaviour. The idea is that students are then given case studies to produce and present on an individual election. Includes powerpoint on intro lesson which covers 1979 and 1997 key case studies as an overview of what happened in each election. Debate on the question “1979/1997 elections were lost by the government rather than won by the opposition” examination of Valence Voting and brief introduction of other theories. This is a grid for supporting your revision- it has some questions planned out in full for each topic and space for you to do your own using the models to help you. I’ve also included some full exemplar Level 5 essays for several topics.

A bundle of example answers for ALevel Russia- the OCR course but can be adapted for any exam board. OCR uses 20 mark “How far do you agree?” style open essays and 10 mark shorter questions in which students must only compare 2 factors as a more important cause or consequence of something. These answers are all A-A* grade responses. Long essay questions included: -How successful were Stalin’s economic policies? -How far did Russia achieve stability 1906-1914? -How far do you agree that the failures of the provisional government led to the October/ November Revolution? -Stalin rose to power because of his strengths and his position within the Bolshevik party. Lesson on the Red Terror, the Cheka, Political Decrees, Murder of Romanovs, War Communism and Gulags This is a source based lesson for students to do in groups. It examines the various methods Bolsheviks used to consolidate their power and control. To complement my lessons on the Civil War- this has more in depth analysis of War Communism, Propaganda, the Cheka etc as well as in depth work on murder of the Romanovs. No powerpoint- just a big A3 template, a card sort and lots of sources

Lesson for OCR ALevel spec Russia 1894-1941 but useful for any other spec involving Russian revolution- can also be simplified for GCSE. This lesson is designed to reflect on Nicholas’ problems and explain the growth of opposition against the Tsar in Russia prior to the 1905 revolution. Looking at the long term impact of Alexander IIs reforms such as the creation of Zemstvo and Emancipation of Serfs and the political spectrum. Lesson designed to take 2 hours plus homework- the Marxism stuff takes a lot of explaining!

OCR ALevel lesson for Russia 1894-1941 Examines the role and aims of Stolypin as well as detailed information on his policies, methods and the impact of his actions on Russia. Fully resourced lesson with very detailed information and evidence, a range of tasks- card sort, video, evaluation table, report card, sources etc. Includes 10 mark exam question for OCR about the relative significance of Witte and Stolypin in bringing stability to Russia.

Edexcel GCSE Superpower Relations and the Cold War This is my 4th lesson from Key Topic 3: The End of the Cold War but can be used as a stand alone lesson. In depth examination of who Reagan was, his ideas and beliefs and his policies including increased arms spending, rolling back Communism by funding guerrillas and the Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars) programme. Includes youtube video clips, source work and all the detail needed for students. Fully resourced nothing else needed. Examines how Reagan’s personality played a key role in developments from the Second Cold War to Gorbacev;s “New thinking” and need to reform the USSR (this is next lesson). Also includes a bumper retrieval practice for Key Topic 1 and 2 Highlighter Heads to help students recall key individuals from earlier in the Cold War (includes all key individuals from Roosevelt to Brezhnev, Dubcek and Husak). Also includes an 8 mark exam question, planning sheet, SEND planning sheet and model answer for a narrative account question on the Cold War. The Background to and Causes of the Tyrone Rebellion ALevel OCR- Tudor Rebellions. The 9 Years War Irish History This is one of the Depth studies- a likely exam question since the focus has largely been on the Pilgrimage of Grace and the Western Rebellion up til now. This work will take several one hour lessons - it recaps the prior Irish rebellions such as Desmond and Geraldine since the legacy of these was one of the reasons. Looks at Tyrone’s demands as well as the motivations of Hugh Roe O’Donnell and Hugh Maguire.

Edexcel GCSE Weimar and Nazi Germany (can be used for ANY exam board and adapted up/ down for KS3/ KS5) Lesson examines the Munich Putsch in Germany and how Hitler tried to seize power plus analysis and evaluation of the impact and why it could be argued to be a success or a failure for the Nazis. Includes a true or false retrieval starter, retrieval task on how Hitler became the leader of the DAP and made it the NSDAP. Video task / questions on the events of the Munich Putsch. Reminder of the 25 point programmed and why it appealed to many in Germany Analysis of CAUSES of Munich Putsch Description of events and why it failed Homework analysis and evaluation task about whether it hurt or helped the Nazi Party.

This lesson is for KS3 not KS4 therefore is more focused on the Big 3 and their aims rather than simply the impact on Germany and Dolchstoss etc- I do have a lesson for KS4 as well Fully resourced lesson with several different activities. Looking at the Short and Long term impact of the Harrying of the North- colour code exercise. Includes everything you need, no need for a textbook.

Edexcel Politics ALevel Specification from 2017 but can be used for AQA also if slightly adapted - Comparative USA/ UK Politics Mega planning grid with many different 12 markers for US Comparative Government (not the theory questions) which has a mixture of fully planned answers, partially planned answers and blank for students to plan as a revision tool. Includes all the past paper questions (12 markers) and recent and relevant examples (updated for 2023) for the ones which are planned. My students have found these grids really useful. Complete lesson; fully resourced on Oversight of the Executive Branch and how effectively Congress performs this function. Lesson 4 in my Congress topic and Lesson 3 of the functions of Congress run of lessons (previously covered Legislation and Representation). All resources included- no need for textbooks or anything else, all examples included up to and including President Biden within the slides/ documents.
