In preparation for a response to stimulus exam with one visual source and one written source, this PPT teaches students about language features in visual texts.

It includes a settling activity where students fill in a diagram (handout) listing common aesthetic features (aka language features and text structures).

This is followed by a series of slides introducing the following:
• Colour
• Body language
• Facial expression
• Gaze
• Posture
• Lines
• Shapes
• Symbols
• Expressive punctuation
• Emojis / emoticons

In my classes, students know to write down what is underlined on the slides.

This is followed by a quick quiz to check for understanding.

Part of a set of resources created for a year 10 English class in Australia (ACARA syllabus, version 9). The other resources are also available in my store – Aussie_Resources. A PowerPoint designed for use in a 70 minute lesson.
