This resource pack, 48 Parts of the Body – Symbol Worksheets for SEND Learners, supports children in recognising, naming, and writing parts of the body through accessible visuals (Boardmaker Licenced).
There are two sets of worksheets covering both everyday external body parts (such as leg, arm, ankle, and wrist) and internal or detailed parts (such as brain, teeth, tongue, and skeleton).
Each set features colour worksheets with space for labelling, black-and-white sheets for colouring and labelling, and symbol /tracing words pages to develop handwriting and fine motor skills.
The main objectives of the resource, are to support SEND learners to build vocabulary and understanding of body parts.
The resource encourages self-awareness and communication about the body.
The visual symbol format provides additional accessibility for non-readers or those using communication aids such as PECS or Boardmaker, making it a versatile and inclusive tool for individual or group learning.
Teachers and parents can use this pack in a range of ways, such as enlarging and cutting out the symbols for matching or sorting games, using the colour sheets as reference charts, and creating interactive displays around the classroom.
Activities can be extended by sorting cards into categories (e.g., inside/outside, upper/lower body) or linking to movement and sensory games (“Touch your elbow!”, “Where’s your brain?”).
The worksheets can also be laminated for repeated tracing or used alongside mirrors and real-life photos to reinforce learning through sight, touch, and movement.
