Make circle area revision fun and memorable with this Area of a Circle Joke Codebreaker, perfect for KS3 Maths, Year 7–9, revision sessions, starters, homework, or cover lessons.
Students calculate the area of each circle to 1 decimal place (using radius or diameter), then use their answers to decode a hidden joke. This adds a motivational puzzle element while reinforcing accuracy with π and essential formula recall.
The worksheet includes A–Z questions across two full pages (pages 1–2), each showing a circle with a labelled radius or diameter. A complete answer grid (pages 3–6) reveals each numerical solution and the final joke, making marking quick and easy.
This activity builds fluency in:
• identifying radius vs. diameter
• using the area formula
𝐴=𝜋𝑟2
• rounding to one decimal place
• checking accuracy through codebreaking
Great for mixed-ability classes and retrieval practice.
