Biology Facts Presentation
This resource contains a fully editable and highly visual PowerPoint presentation on 100 amazing biology facts. It is an ideal resource for biology week which takes place in October each year.

Sample facts:

1. The human mouth produces 1 litre (1.8 pints) of saliva each day. In a lifetime, the average person produces about 28413 litres of saliva; enough to fill two swimming pools!
2. Our eyes are always the same size from birth.
3. If all the DNA in a human body is stretched out, it would reach to the moon 6,000 times.
4. The power generated by our brain when we are awake is enough to light up a bulb?
5. The mucus from a human sneeze can travel up to 100 miles per hour.
6. The acid released in our stomach during digestion is hydrochloric acid. It is strong enough to dissolve a razor blade.
7. Some oak trees produce acorns at 20 years old. However, most oak trees do not produce acorns until they are 50 years old.
8. The smell of cut grass is a plant distress call. When cut, grass releases green leaf volatiles to stimulate the growth of new cells to close the wound and to prevent bacterial infection.
9. Caterpillars have more muscles than humans. They have 4,000 muscles; the human body has 629.
10. Alligators have between 74 and 80 teeth in their jaw. As teeth wear down or fall out they are replaced. An alligator can go through 2000 to 3000 teeth in a lifetime.

The PowerPoint contains hyperlinks to a video of the climbing of the world's tallest tree; an octopus squeezing through a very small hole; dolphins sleeping; the call of the blue whale and the lyrebird mimicking other birds and a chainsaw.
