This festive-themed activity helps children explore patterns, colours, and shapes.
Each child is given a worksheet with blank square gift box template/s and chooses two colours to begin.
There are 3 worksheets.
- One present outline
- Two present outlines
- Six present outlines
Children colour the squares inside the gift box in different patterns, ensuring that no two presents look the same.
Once children have mastered using two colours, they can progress to three or four colours, creating more complex designs and discussing the patterns they notice (e.g. stripes, checks, or alternating colours).
Encourage children to:
• Talk about the colours and shapes they use.
• Describe their pattern (e.g. “pink, purple, pink, purple”).
• Compare their work with others to spot similarities and differences.
This activity supports mathematical thinking, fine motor skills, and seasonal creativity, making it perfect for EYFS and KS1 festive learning.
