This is a scheme designed for KS4 and Yr 9. It is a chance for them to expand their knowledge of a relevant topic as well as develop their AQA English Language skills. The final task will be for the class to draft, edit and improve upon a letter to the head teacher regarding guns in the classroom. This is suitable for any exam board but tailored to the AQA spec. It is an issue that engages all students of every ability and can easily be differentiated up or down depending on class. The scheme is designed to last for one week (5 lessons) but can be stretched further if needs be. There are opportunities for green pen activities as well as further research and debate on this topical issue.

LESSON ON DEPRESSION FOR TEENS- KS3, PSHE, ENGLISH, RE

**This is a brilliant creative lesson on depression for teens. It can be used with Key Stage 3 classes (US Grades 6 to 8) in PSHE, ENGLISH, RE or Citizenship. ** The aim of these lessons is to create bright, honest, straightforward and well-designed activities and resources so that teens can connect with the material and understand why the topic is relevant to them. DON’T BE INTIMIDATED BY THE NUMBER OF SLIDES! The presentation has been specifically designed to have as little as possible on each slide so that they are easy to read, memorable and so they build a story! The lesson is split into five sections: ‘What is depression?’; ‘Who gets depressed?’; ‘What does it feel like?’, ‘How do you recognise depression?’ and ‘What helps with depression?’. Each section has a variety of activities so that you can adapt the lesson to your class and the amount of time you have available for the topic. The lesson plan has suggestions for a one hour lesson and a half hour lesson. The full lesson with all the activities would fill 90-100 minutes. Included is an editable Power Point, a PDF version of the Power Point with easy to read, beautifully designed fonts, a PDF of the detailed lesson plan and PDFs of the three worksheets required both in colour and grayscale. Full Term study on Thailand. I developed this for my Stage 8 class as we are doing Thailand for the International Food Fair. I lived in Thailand for 2 years so most of the photos are mine and topics are based on my own experiences. My class really enjoyed this whole unit - they loved learning a bit of Thai and got really enthusiastic about the tasks! There are 9 topics in total and I have included worksheets/notes that cover everything on the Powerpoint so your students won’t need to write anything down. The Powerpoint is not heavy on text as I preferred to project images and diagrams and layer on detail in class discussion but there is more information on the worksheets. Most topics include a build in assessment task (Tasks on the PP and worksheets). The topics are: Introduction to Thailand Language and National Sport (Muay Thai) Festival and festival Culture Buddhism Climate and Weather Brief History of Modern Thailand Food Plants and Animals of Thailand End of Unit Quiz You can make it run longer or short depending on the ability of the class, how often you have Humanities and how much enrichment you add. African Countries and Capitals - Puzzle

African Countries and Capitals - Puzzle Students should match the countries with their capitals. There are 30 countries and their capitals in the puzzle. Some of the countries are located only partly in Asia. I’ve included three different sizes of the same puzzle. The smaller size is only three pages and is great if you are going to print of individual copies for students to practice in class or at home. The larger size requires 8 pieces of paper and quite a bit of space to solve – fun for centers and group work. The extra-large size requires 24 pieces of paper. Cut out the puzzle pieces (or even better if your students do it themselves) and students are to solve the puzzle so that it matches the solution provided. If your students are going to cut out the pieces then no prep is needed – the puzzle is not in order. I’ve been using these puzzles for years with great success! I recommend printing the puzzles on colourful paper and laminating them. This way you only have to cut them out once and they will last for years! What is included in this product? • The solution to the puzzle – Pages 2 • The normal size puzzle – Pages 3 – 5 • The large size puzzle – Pages 6 – 13 • The extra-large size puzzle – Pages 14-37 • Questions and Answers in a table format for easy grading or you can cut these out to play a matching game – Pages 38 – 40 My students love doing these types of puzzles. It’s brief, and doesn’t go into too much detail but has a drawing task, and you can make a sensory task (I just used a box and cut a hole in it), to keep them engaged. It has links to the NAS website, which is for 2018 but can be updated, and to a youtube clip about the creator of Pokemon, which some students might like.

Building History - A Summer research / creative project for KS2-4

Building History is a research or creative project for KS3 or 4 students to consider and explore religious history - whether real or imagined. It gives players the chance to invent their own situations using creative higher thinking skills to explain why situations happened, and how we got to where we are today. Building History is split into two distinct areas – This World and Our World. Building History – This World ‘This World’ uses our own history as an example to detail some of the key periods and situations that lead to modern religion. Students take real life histories and explain how and why they came to be, and how they influence the modern world by linking past and present. Students can also take this as a set beginning, adding in different situations and periods before or after to creatively see what impact this may have. But Why? ‘This World’ teaches students how the history of world religions has come about, using a range of creative and evaluative skills, setting them up for new GCSE gradings where they will need to be able to confidently demonstrate a detailed knowledge of religious beliefs and confidently analyse the influence of religion on individuals, communities and societies both today and historically using a range of specialist vocabulary. ‘This World’ also allows for students a wide variety of ways to confidently showcase information. Building History – Our World ‘Our World’ contains everything students need to create a wildly different world – whether it be a fantasy world of elves and dragons or the strange and unusual culture within a futuristic space station. It includes several examples for students to begin with and is easily edited towards different situations, series of work or curriculums. Building History is designed to be used as a project over a series of lessons - however can easily be adapted to shorter lesson timescales or even as a starter.
