Feelings / emotions activity for social skills

Feelings / emotions activity for social skills

A resource I made for a mixed group of ks1 / ks2 children with autism / social communication needs. Aim is to develop greater understanding of feelings and to begin to develop awareness of other's feelings, also turn taking and attention and listening. Resource includes a feelings poster and 18 cards describing situations that have happened to an imaginary child - e.g. 'She has a wobbly tooth'. We discuss the various feelings an how children are feeling today. Cards are placed face down and children take turns to turn cards over. They consider how the person may be feeling. More able groups could be prompted / questioned to consider would everyone feel that way in that situation (some people can't stand having wobbly teeth, others get excited...) further developing theory of mind and understanding that people can feel differently about situations.

Oustanding SEND Support Plan and Whole School Rationale

Oustanding SEND Support Plan and Whole School Rationale

This is an excellent resources for SENCO's and Heads who need to demonstrate a system to show how all universal services are working together to deliver the outcomes of all children who have an EHCP or awaiting assessment for one . One of the key features identified in the SEND code of practice 2015 is working together across education, health and social care for joint outcomes. As a school it is required that we should ‘develop a joint understanding of the outcomes that their local population of children and young people with SEN and disabilities aspires to, and use it to produce a joint plan, which they then deliver jointly, and review jointly.’ The legal framework in relation to the code of practice indicated that under Section 25 of the Children and Families Act 2014 local authorities (Schools) should ensure integration between educational provision, health and social care provisions, where this would promote wellbeing and improve the quality of provision for disabled young people and those with SEN. (page 38 of the Code of Practice). As a result of the legal framework and Ofsted recomendation it was decided to devise a universal system where all provision / outcomes are identified and specific to the individual children at ………. School. Having discussed this with external professionals and researched what is identified as outstanding practice, I began to create a system that is universal with all stakeholders and acknowledges the views of the child and how to best support them. In reflection to the above a new whole school framework has been develop and I have worked closely with the Head of Care, Chair of governors, Educational Psychologist, LA SEND Department, …….. (Upper School SENCO), ……..(Team Teach Lead), ……. (PSA) to produce a system called (Individual SEN Support Plan).

Well-being Journal for students and teachers

Well-being Journal for students and teachers

Make it your mission this year to take your life back with this well-being journal. Use for yourself or issue to your students to help them keep a journal of their life so they can reflect as well as set targets and track their progress to build positive habits. We’re all so busy and we give so much to other people that self-care often goes on the back burner. It’s crucial we take care of our well-being as it affects the way we feel and think, the way we cope with life’s challenges and how we can make the most of our potential. If we neglect to make an effort to take care of our well-being we can find ourselves stressed, jaded, unfulfilled or feeling trapped. After getting overwhelmed with life as a teacher, I started to set and track my progress in habits I wanted to create, as well as journaling. It has been essential in helping me form good habits and take care of my emotional state too. By recording my journey, I have been able to spot patterns in my mood over the course of a year and I’m now able to plan ahead, manage my life effectively and look after my well-being. With this journal, you and your students can have that same control and emotional freedom! Journal includes: 70 pages Every page is hand rendered in zentangle style for mindful colouring Monthly journal pages for brief journaling Weekly journal pages for brief journaling Daily journal pages, both with prompts and plain for more detailed journaling Prompts encourage you to focus on achievement, self-care and future thoughts Daily tracker with 4 point system to monitor and review well-being each day Monthly gratitude jar keepsake to record daily joys 12 different zentangle themes for each month to add variety 4 different types of trackers: mood, sleep, exercise and one for your own habits Benefits: It’s so easy to get caught up in day to day life that your well-being falls by the wayside but having somewhere to record your thoughts, feelings, memories and emotions puts these in the forefront of your mind ensuring you focus on them. Journaling has been proven to reduce physical disease symptoms and anxiety, enhance self-esteem and increase self-awareness. It can improve your self love and help you become really in tune with your own thoughts and emotions. Writing engages both the left and right side of the brain, enhancing problem solving capabilities. When you journal, you can go back and identify patterns to help you in the future as well as identify areas of personal growth to help you celebrate your successes.
