Resolving Vectors

(1)
Designed for year 10 and 11 for the new AQA specification. Animated powerpoint designed to lead students through calculating resultant forces using right angle triangles. Introduction is a recap on resultant forces. Allows students to become confident with drawing ‘triangles of forces’ for diagonal resultant forces (animated answers to show the relevant forces) Shows how ‘alternate angles’ are used to help calculate angles. Worked examples of SOHCAHTOA to calculate angles and unknown forces Plenary is a worked exam style question.
Elastic Potential Energy
JubblordJubblord

Elastic Potential Energy

(1)
This was delivered to a Year 10 class. Can be altered for different abilities. Introduction discusses elastic as a property. Recaps on Hooke's law to give context. Leads through calculation from spring constant to elastic potential with example. Worksheet attached.
Atoms, Ions and Isotopes
JubblordJubblord

Atoms, Ions and Isotopes

(0)
Delivered to KS4 for the 'Atomic structure and Radiation' section of the AQA specification. Recaps the structure of the atom in detail including charges and relative mass. Allows the students to define isotopes and link them to mass numbers. Discusses the formation of ions and how they are formed for atoms to become stable (linking nicely to radiation later in the topic) Worksheets are attached for assessing learning at either point as preferred. Plenary is a visual based class task to determine student understanding of electron gain vs loss.
Parallelogram of forces
JubblordJubblord

Parallelogram of forces

(0)
Designed to teach KS4 about how to calculate resultant forces when the forces are non-collinear. Gives examples of when forces which occur in such a way. Animated guide to drawing a parallelogram as a worked example, colour coded for ease of viewing. Gives students past exam style questions for practise
Forces on an Inclined Plane
JubblordJubblord

Forces on an Inclined Plane

(0)
Designed to be delivered to KS4 groups. This continues from discussing parallel forces and explains to students how to calculate what forces occur when an object is on a slope. Using the example of a trolley on a hill the students are lead step by step through the different forces and how to draw a triangle of forces. From this they are given worked examples and then a differentiated task to determine confidence levels. Ends with a dicussion about forces acting in different directions.
Introduction to electricity
JubblordJubblord

Introduction to electricity

(0)
Designed as an intro for KS3 but also can be delivered as a recap for KS4. Introduces electricity as the movement as electrons (with atom diagram) so that students are aware of this from the begining. Symbols and related worksheet given as activity. Leads students through identifying series and parallel circuits with digrams on board. Activity for students to determine if circuits work or not (with reasons). Introduction to Amps. Plenary is exam style question
Acceleration
JubblordJubblord

Acceleration

(1)
A guided PowerPoint I used for my year 10. Can be altered for all levels. Covers difference between speed and velocity. Scaffolds the learning of acceleration and relevant equations. Challenges students to draw velocity / time graphs. QR code provided for students to discover acceleration and how to calculate it. Extension questions provided. Differentiated homework for higher and lower ability students.
Plum Pudding Model

This lesson was designed to deliver to KS4 but can be altered for lower levels if required, had greatly assisted my lower levels to understand and access this topic. Also a useful tie in for the physics topic on ‘radiation’. Preview in PDF Goes through the history of the atom from Ancient Greece, John Dalton, JJ Thomson and finally the Rutherford experiment. Animation shows the different paths the alpha particles took and enables the students to visualise how the different paths helped to explain the nuclear model and disprove the plum pudding. Plenary is exam style questions with answers provided.
