This resource is designed to enhance Biology students skills in simple and serial dilutions. Mastering dilution techniques is fundamental for paper 3, practical exam for CIE and these slides provide several examples for students to practice the most common ones. They also gain hands-on experience through these slides as I provide them with the material needed to prepare the dilutions after working out the numbers. I use this presentation in combination with “Practical skills booklet” so that they can also practice past paper questions and other required skills such as graphs and planning investigations. A lesson designed for the Safer Internet Day but it can be used for PSHE to tackle disinformation and encourage fact-checking through education. It includes: Basic online practices that spread disinformation to raise awareness and discuss where they have seen these techniques used in the internet. This power point presentation follows the 9700 AS Biology Syllabus by CIE and the endorsed book by Jones, Fosbery, Taylor and Gregory (5th edition). The slides cover all the theoretical content for transport in plants and I currently use them with my year 12 group. Slides include: Brief explanation of transport needs and vascular system in plants. Plan diagrams practice of leaves, stems and roots and adding labels. (also included in the activities’ power point) Mechanism for water transport: cohesion-tension and mass flow Mechanism for assimilates transport: active loading in phloem Final slides: include 4 past paper multiple choice questions with answers.

Everything you need to deliver seven plant practical activities. Easily adaptable and suitable for Year 7, 8 and 9. Some would also be suitable in year 10. The slides for each activity include the apparatus needed, method, results and conclusion. They can also be performed as demonstrations and most of them can be used in distance learning. What happens to plants in the absence of light? – This practical can be done in the lab or sent to do it at home in a distance learning approach as little material is needed. It can also be shown as a demonstration. Leaves under the microscope Roots for food: web exploring activity that can be easily performed in distance learning. Seeds feeling gravity: lab activity although it is simple enough to be performed in distance learning. Transport of water in celery: 2 lab activities included. It could be performed at home with food colouring. Investigating different colours of light in photosynthesis – theoretically. Can be done in distance learning. All the information given for student to work out on their own the apparatus, risks, results and conclusion. Check the slides’ notes for some extra info about the activity.
