A lesson that introduces the key perspective of Marxism. This lesson is part 1 of 2 parts. The idea is for students to imagine themselves as workers, then have the standard deductions taken from their wage. The idea of this task is to get students to see society as Marx did (my students tend to struggle the most with Marxism because they aren’t workers or have a clue about the cost of living.) The lesson then moves on to introduce Marx and Capitalism and Bourgeoise. The next lesson will look at the Proletariat and Marx theory of the need for a revolution. Students will then assess the strengths and weaknesses of this theory. This is a lesson suitable for either an introduction in sociology or as a refresher/revision for students before their GCSE. Suitable as an introductory lesson, or a revision lesson before the exams. A cheap lesson as there wasn’t a great deal of teacher input. Students complete their quiz, do keyword bingo and then answer a series of exam questions. I like students to take a question at a time, mark a peers answer and then I live write in the powerpoint as the class create the perfect answer-including literacy! I then print the slides after the lesson and they stick these into their books.

Ideal for either the start of the course, or as a revision tool for students. Guide covers the exam command words and show how the GCSE exam is structured. New spec 9-1. Introductory lesson looks at the definition of family and household. The starter activity is a quiz that builds up with one question every lesson. So by the end of the unit the starter will be an 18 question quiz. The idea is that the question is something they won’t know/challenging, that they will learn in the lesson. They then answer the same question each lesson, helping them to retain the information as it is repeated each lesson. The question usually focuses on a keyword. New AQA 9-1 specification. A consolidation lesson looking at educational achievement. Internal/external factors, gender, ethnicity and social class. Students use their own book notes to complete an A3 worksheet, but a help sheet is provided if students have missed lessons and require some support. A selection of 12 mark questions are used if students complete. Ideal as a cover lesson, homework task, consolidation lesson before assessment or revision for Y11 before their exam.
