World Cup 2018: The Ultimate Bundle

4 Resources
Can you feel the excitement brewing for the FIFA World Cup 2018?!? My class cannot stop talking about the World Cup lately. This has driven me to make lots of resources based on the event. In this bundle I’ve included all of the resources I’ve made so far on the World Cup. Included: *A maths activity for children to calculate the distances between the World Cup stadiums and convert the units. *A maths game involving children representing a country and answering a maths question to score a ‘goal’. Then competing against other countries to win the final. *Mathematical word problems (and answers) involving the Russian Currency. *2 activities were children engage with designing their own fantasy World cup jersey and team. *A maths activity involving children identifying the co-ordinates in which Ronaldo passes to his team mates. Each activity has already sold numerous times on TES and TpT, so by bundling them together I hope it to be of some benefit. I really hope you enjoy these resources as much as my class and I did. Please leave a review and let me know how you and your class like them.

Book Week Planning: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

As last week was Book Week, I planned a week’s worth of lessons based around the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Each day, we read a chapter of the story and then engage in lessons based on what we’ve read. As you can see from the cover image, this involves lots of chocolate!! The children absolutely adored these lessons and were so engaged in the process of melting chocolate. They needed to see which chocolate would be the best to build the Indian Prince’s palace out of by melting different types of chocolate. HINT: flakes don’t melt! Honestly, a really fun week and trust me, you’ll enjoy it too. Please check out my Instagram for more of my activities for Book Week: Rebecca.the.irish.teacher

Bonfire Night: Powerpoint and Activity

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. This resource includes: *A colourful, interactive powerpoint. *Differentiated acitivities Please leave a review on your thoughts. Thanks
Non-Chronological Report Year 1

A weekly plan on non-chronological reports for year 1. This plan is detailed and differentiated. Children are encouraged to use a signpost sentence to inform the reader what they will read. They will make notes by using a mind map and create an interesting, factual report. It's a follow on from another non-chronological plan I have in my shop: see the link below: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/non-chronological-reports-year-1-11510333

This resource includes a detailed plan for a week on subtraction. The plan is differentiated and explicitly lays out what each group will do for their activity each day. Objectives covered are: Using column method accurately Using the inverse to check my answers Solving word problems involving subtraction I have also included levelled SATs questions as an extension to extend or assess children's application of subtraction. These lessons were taught by myself and my year 4 team, who found the outcomes to understanding subtraction were successful. I have attached a maths skill check also, which I have started to use for the first lesson each week to check children's understanding of a variety of mathematical concepts.

I created these bookmarks to laminate and have in my children’s English books as they struggle to spell these words. By seeing them spelt correctly so often, they got better at spelling them themselves. Easy to edit also.

'Journey to Jo'Burg' Display

A simple display I used when studying the book ‘Journey to Jo’Burg’. We used this book to create pieces of writing with issues and dilemmas. (Planning is available in my shop also). Children loved the colorful characters which confirmed their understanding of what a dilemma was, while learning about the country of South Africa at the same time. *I know the sign in my cover picture (Jo’Berg) is spelled wrong, however I have fixed it in the resource itself.

Reading and Understanding: Justin Timberlake

This product was created with the hope of teaching children about Justin Timberlake. It has everything they need to know, including a range of material to allow them to engage with his music and form an opinion on the content. Included: Pre-assessment tool: A.K.A a KWL (What I KNOW, what I WANT to know and what I LEARNED). This allows the children to create questions that they want to know about JT’s life and can put them in charge of their own learning, making this activity very child-cantered. When children finish the topic, they can return to their KWL sheet and fill in what they have LEARNED. Biography: a 1 page biography of Justin Timberlake’s life and music career. Comprehension – a set of questions to allow children to engage further with the material on Justin Timberlake. Questions will ask children to locate information directly from the text, but also encourage them to use their inference skills and dig deeper. STRAND: Listening and Responding: using YouTube, encourage a class discussion on the song and guide them to respectfully disagree with each other, while backing up their answers with reasons. Model to children how to respond to song by discussing how it made you feel and the effect of the pace, lyrics etc. Your opinion matters!!: this is an opportunity for children to give their genuine opinion on some songs by JT. Encourage them to be honest and guide them into how to explain their answers. Design Time: Children can design their very own album cover for one of Justin Timberlake’s albums. Just for Fun- A word search Finally - a 1 page document explaining how I used each sheet and some ideas in how you can use it best in your classroom too :) I really enjoy making fun resources for my children so I really hope you enjoyed this as much as we did! Please leave a review as this will help me to help you. I’d love to hear how you used this resource in your classroom :) Fabulous Boarders are from: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Krista-Wallden-Creative-Clips

World Cup 2018: Maths Activities

FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 is HERE! Coming from a ‘football crazy’ class, I knew my class would want to spend the end of year engaging with content based around the FIFA world cup. This resource involves the whole class and is a way to consolidate maths through the World Cup. I have included: PPT for the names of 30 children PPT for the names/groups of the countries in the World Cup Scoreboard to track who is winning/competing against who. Research sheet to engage children with the country they chose Over 45 different maths questions WITH answers Game rules Example of a layout of who plays who Children names will be drawn from a hat along with a country. They will then be representing this country in the game. Children will roll a dice 6 times. If either competing team rolls a 6, this equates to one goal IF they can answer the a maths question (included) correctly. If they get it incorrect, the goal has been saved by their opponent. Aimed at KS2. Can be eaily adapted for your children too. In my class, there are only 18 students, but I have included enough for 30. (As there is 2 extra teams, the first two children ‘out’ can come back in. An exhilarating, fun activity for those ‘End of Year’ days that we all crave activities for. We really enjoyed it :)

Inverse KS2

(0)
A ONE page worksheet on inverse operations for KS2! I use this one sheet for each ability group within my Year 4 class. I differentiate through support rather than work. Yes the lower ability children may need more initial support and resources, but they are flying in confidence and in Maths ability. This sheet allows children to move on to a harder challenge every 3 questions, thus challenging each ability group at all times. Before children start their activity, they need to critically think about a statement written on the paper (work backwards and change the sign). I allow them to talk in mixed ability pairs about this statement and PROVE that it is correct/incorrect before they start their activity. By doing this, children learn to justify their own answers in Mathematics, thus having an overall better understanding for the Mathematical concepts. I have adopted this strategy for all topics and it’s proving very effective in children’s understanding. GIve it a try and be sure to let me know how it worked in your classroom.

A sample cover letter

(0)
There was a lot of interest on my Instagram (rebecca.the.irish.teacher) of a sample cover letter for teaching abroad, so I decided to make one. A cover letter is the school’s first impression of you as a person, professional and potential employee. Even though you may be applying for lots of jobs, ensure you make your Cover letter stands out from the crowd. Read their mission and vision, read their objectives as a school and mention these things in your cover letter and how you are going prosper and flourish in their school. For this sample cover letter, I have clicked on to a job offer on TESjobs and read their ethos, mission and vision statements. I quote from them and make my cover letter look very individual to their school in hope to make it ‘stand out’. There is no set length required for a cover letter but you need to refer to their ethos and mission statements if you want to make them believe you would like a job at their school. This product includes: A detailed cover letter that’s specific to a school’s ethos, while providing information of you as a teacher.

Prior to a ‘big write’, I ask the children to stick these into their books as a check list to ensure they include all of the necessary features of our chosen genre. You can add extra things on there too, such as a whole class target or focus you’ve been working on that week (e.g. similes or openers). I use it as a slight assessment tool for myself to see how my children are progressing in writing. They complete a big write at the end of our genre which is usually every 2-3 weeks. It’s a simple tool to show progression in writing as well as make use of self and peer assessment. Just edit this document to suit the needs of your class/genre in writing. I’d love to hear how you got on using them :)

Division: Differentiated Activities

DIFFERENTIATED DIVISION FOR 4 GROUPS When teaching division this week, I struggled to find a resource in which I needed. In Mathematics, I like a resource to be differentiated, while allowing the children to move up to a higher set themselves, if they find the work too easy. This resource allows children to make great progress in one lesson as they can be challenged constantly, rather than completing page after page of the same type of calculation. My class have not yet moved onto long division, so it is differentiated by: Bronze: No remainders or carry ons. Silver: Harder division calculations with some remainders. Gold: All with remainders and involving all times tables. Upon finishing the gold section, there is an additional section called platinum. This section allows a further challenge for children in completing ‘missing calculation’ division questions, ‘reasoning and explanation’ questions and ‘spot the mistakes’ questions (answers included). It’s based off Maths Mastery ideas. These files have been saved as a PDF and include answers. Class Assembly: Don't Judge a Book by its Cover.

(0)
My most recent class assembly was based on Theseus and the Minotaur (with a twist). We had covered this story during our topic of myths https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/myths-understanding-the-features-11943412 and the children LOVED it. I wrote this play script based on the myth however we added a little twist. The minotaur is known to be a FEARSOME, UGLY creature, but in our story he turns out to be nice once people get to know him. Moral: Don’t judge a book by its cover. The play script is editable to ensure that there is enough lines for the children in your class. I have 25 and there is 25 parts. However, it is an easy script to edit and adapt. To tie it all together, we sang ‘Eye of the Tiger’ in the middle of the performance which went down a treat with the parents and the school. Masks NOT included This resource contains the script ONLY and in total the play lasted about 15 minutes. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did and please let me know how you and your class got on.
Year 3&4 Statutory Words
TheIrishTeacherTheIrishTeacher

Year 3&4 Statutory Words

(0)
These spellings are based off the statutory spellings of the English National Curriculum 2014. Children in years 3&4 are expected to spell these words by the end of Year 4, and in my classroom, we try to learn and familiarise ourselves with them as much as possible. With this resource, I print, laminate and cut up these words and have them in a basket or box in the classroom. As a starter to guided reading or any English lesson really, I take out the basket and give each table 5 words to focus on. They discuss the words and the spelling patterns, along with the meaning. This way the words are familiar to them. To increase children’s use of these words, any time they use one of them in their writing, they are encouraged to underline it to show they can spell it. Thus, the spelling of my year 4s has greatly improved, thank god! This resource comes with 109 words in both yellow and black and white. Please leave a review and let me know your thoughts. Don’t forget to follow me on Instagram for more ideas :)
