This lesson is designed to meet the standards of the new Higher RMPS exam (valid from August 2016). It helps pupils to explain the meaning of Samsara, to describe the wheel of life, to interpret possible implications of Samsara for the lives of Buddhists, to identify one key belief and one key practice related to Samsara and to analyse the significance of it. The resource requires 1-2 periods to be completed. It includes a PowerPoint to give structure to lessons and provide a visual aid when needed, a flip chart with activities for the pupils, the lesson plan and two worksheets. The principles and strategies of formative assessment are embedded in the lesson (for example, entrance ticket, opinion line and the self-evaluation activity). There are many opportunities for class discussions to encourage young people to present their own opinions and respect the opinion/views of others.

‘Remembrance Day Lest we Forget’ is a well-structured lesson which aims to help students to engage in a meaningful way with this event and to understand the meaning and significance of Remembrance Day. This resource is also the third lesson of the unit ‘Exploring Autumn and Winter Festivals’ (unit plan can be found here) and it is designed to last 1-2 periods. The resource contains a PowerPoint to give structure to the lesson, a flip chart with engaging activities for students and worksheets. There is a mixture of stimulating and attractive activities which ensure high-quality learning experiences for all students: give me 3, watching video-clips, reflective questions, KUI activity etc. There are many opportunities for class discussions to encourage young people to present their own opinions and respect the views of others. All activities are clearly linked to success criteria. All activities proved to be very successful in helping pupils consolidate their knowledge and understanding of Remembrance Day. This lesson is part of the inter-disciplinary project: Religion and Sport. Pupils learn to describe a situation where an athlete may experience a conflict between the requirements of their religious belief and the demands of their sport, to identify and explain any religious beliefs/practices associated with the potential conflict and to discuss factors that will influence choices for a person facing such a conflict. The resource can be used with S1/S2/S3 classes (Scotland) or year 7/8/9 (England) and it is designed to last 1-2 periods. Pupils are encouraged to debate, to express their own opinions and to think more deeply about this topic. The activities are designed to give all pupils opportunities to achieve all success criteria and experience enjoyment at the same time. The PowerPoint, with a very clear structure and eye-catching images can be used to boost vocabulary, to consolidate understanding and encourage confident thinking. Are you looking for a fun way to learn more about the Apostles’ Creed? This set of seven differentiated jigsaw puzzles is perfect for you and your class. Use the puzzles with your students to build up vocabulary, reinforce comprehension of key concepts, and deepen knowledge of the Apostles’ Creed. It includes information about the sources which describe the life of the Buddha, his life with a focus on his spiritual awakening and teaching, understandings of the Buddha in Mahayana and Theravada Buddhism etc. This mind map can help students to review information effectively and quickly, and to see how facts relate to one another and thus, to be able to answer any analysis or evaluation question based on the life of the Buddha.
