Making Maths Memorable

Average Rating4.26
(based on 50 reviews)

Ever since my PGCE I have been convinced that every Maths topic has a unique and interesting way to be taught. 7 years later and I have collected and created 100s of resources to prove my point. All resources, including IB and A Level, are designed to be thoroughly engaging but yet cover every bit of content required with plenty of practise too. Teach LCM with the life of the Cicada bugs or teach proportions using celebrity faces and the golden ratio. All fully animated engaging powerpoints.

Half lesson, one sheet test on Solving Quadratic Equations

(1)
I have written a number of mini tests to fit perfectly on to one sheet of A4 (I actually print them 2 to a page so A5!). These tests can be completed and peer marked in the same lesson and will be reused by you many many times over the years. Really easy to mark due to the layout of the test paper and the markschemes included. This tests all types of solving quadratic equation questions that can be found in the GCSE. Ideal for finishing the Quadratic Equations chapter. Includes factorising, the formula, completing the square and trial and improvement. I use it for a pretest before the official chapter test.

Whole school Code breaking activity

Whole school Code breaking activity

(0)
There are 4 codes from throughout history in which students need to break. Each code gets progressively harder leading to the final code of a simplified Enigma machine. It is impossible to solve a code if the previous one has not been cracked as each one provides vital clues for the next code. The final code (the simplifed enigma) once broken is a 3 digit number. This resource can be used in many different way. One way is buying a 3 digit combination lock and locking a box/locker full of prizes. Then send all students the presentation. Or send all students one code a week if you want to stretch it out more. The first slide needs to be edited to suit your plans.

Discovering functions and their graphs

(0)
A worksheet that students use alongside a graphing resource (not included - I use desmos.com) to find out for themselves how the different equations make different lines and how changing various coefficients affects the line. A Powerpoint to flick through at the end with a fun "Simon says" plenary should round off the learning.

Drawing pictures using functions on Desmos.com

This is a fun lesson for the very able. After teaching functions and their graphs and transformations of graphs this lesson guides students in using this knowledge to draw graphical pictures. The worksheet teaches the student step by step by guiding them to draw a house with a chimney. That takes the first 20-30 minutes at which point students are directed to drawing their own.
GCSE higher level revision hunt (B - A*)

GCSE higher level revision hunt (B - A*)

(0)
A very unique treasure hunt. Instructions for use: Students start on any question. Write down letters to answers as they go along (NOT the question they started on!) The collection of letters make a word but not in order. They can use an online unscrambler to find the word. They stop when a question sends them back to a letter they already have. It is the longest possible word where no letters repeat.

Everything required to teach set theory for the iGCSE. Includes worksheets that run along side the PowerPoint. The homework worksheet with answers can also be used as a mini assessment.
Question grid fun starter

Question grid fun starter

(0)
Students throw a soft toy at the board (I use a toy angry bird). Teacher clicks the number that the student hit to reveal a question. If it is a yellow question students get a merit. Works best with smart boards as questions will reveal themselves when hit by the soft toy.
