Linking the expanding universe and red shift

Part one of a bitesize revision timetable leading up to the GCSE exams.The rest will follow when it is written.

The lesson looks at the two theories of the universe being created - Big bang and steady state.\n\nThey use the key cards and split between inferences and observations then use them to decide which is a better model and why

This is a 100 minute lesson but is split into two 50 minute lessons. The first is about gravity, the second is on moments.

The students are shown some models for the flow of electricity in a circuit. They then have to create their own. Worksheet has levels 4-7.

Modelling circuits that are parallel or series, goes after a modelling lesson on circuits (which is also on TES)

Practical activity.\n\nIn pairs students pick a type of ear to make. They then stand near the sound source that is included and walk backward until they can no longer hear the sound. The sound needs to be very low, along with the class being quiet.\n\nTwo elephant ears should be the best.

Intro to Light topic, covers keywords and gets the students to think about light travelling in straight lines

Intro to the lesson has the students covering things from previous lessons. Then move on to all the conservation laws with lots of examples (some with answers) for the students to complete.

Introduction to the particle families and how they are broken down. Then introduce how lepton number works. Some examples on the board and then a worksheet to complete. Plenary has the student devising games

A worksheet for students to work on either as part of the lessons on reflection and refraction, or, as I used them as a topic recap.

Differentiated worksheets using the speed = distance / time formula

Include demo's such as: 1. One nail bursting a balloon, then bed of nails not bursting the balloon 2. Crushing can (youtube) 3. Inflateable marshmallowman (youtube)
