P2 AQA Equations - HSW Exam Technique

(3)
Students match the problem to the correct equation and enter the relevant number on the grid. Students will know if their answers are all correct because all of the rows and columns total the number 39 (see the answer sheet). Particularly useful for those who need some extra help with unpicking physics questions.

Velocity and Speed SOLO Lesson

Students decide which SOLO level they are at and choose a partner of similar level. They then complete the activity set for that level and continue with the tasks of a higher level. \n\nSet up 2 workstations, one with the equipment for practical - trundle wheel, tape and stopclock, and another with the hexagons activity.

Friction and Forces Lesson based on #takeaway

This is based on the VERY successful #takeaway format where students can choose their activity from a fully differentiated choice. They need to choose a starter, main and desert but they can chop and change as they choose eg. they can choose an easy starter, harder main and medium difficulty desert. Ideally this should take them about 45 minutes to complete. Students will need access to textbooks or the internet. I give them the Exploring Science Text but any will be fine.

Generating Electricity New AQA checklist from spec

This is a checklist adapted from the new AQA physics spec. I use it as a marking aid at the end of the topic and tick off the outcomes achieved. They are then given reflection (D.I.R.T.) time and assessed again. My students are finding these exceptionally useful.

Fully differentiated Catalysts lesson

Use the presentation and the lesson plan as an overview. 3 different worksheets (best printed as booklets) for different groups (struggling scientists are the lower ability groups). \nLesson starts off with the most fabulous colour changing catalytic reaction showing that catalysts do not change or get used up in the reaction. \nI found it best to print these in small booklet form.

Worksheet to help those struggling with this topic to gain merit. Helps them to describe how lenses can affect rays of light. A similar one for mirrors can be found here http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Concave-and-amp-Convex-Mirrors-BTEC-low-abiltiy-6-3-6427471/requestAction/add/ - answers to be uploaded shortly.

B13.4 DNA and the Genome Foldable

Suitable for foundation /SEN/ EAL students. READING AGE FOR ALL TEXT (using Flesch-Kincade): 11 YEARS + This is best used with this text (https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/foundation-text-on-dna-and-the-genome-11801021) that summarises and simplifies the core ideas, as well as a worksheet that can besimply folded into an interactive resource (video demonstrates how). Core ideas covered - what is DNA? - What are genes? - What are chromosomes? - What is a genome? -Why does understanding the genome matter?

AQA How Science Works HSW Terminology Highr Tarsia

(1)
Puzzle I created to help students get to grips with the HSW terminology. Tarsia software can be downloaded free of charge from Hermitech Laboratories. I would suggest that the attached glossary be given to lower ability to students. This activity should take about 20 minutes. The print maybe a bit small on one or two of the triangles so you may want to enlarge to to A3.

Attached is a presentation and worksheet for students to complete. Activity 1 requires AQA Applied Science books but is not entirely necessary. You will require a class set of 2p pieces and some pipettes if you wish to carry out the investigation.
