An easy to follow lesson which focuses on the pupils exploring the prologue of Romeo and Juliet. Key discussion on why an opening to a play is important before a task which enables the pupils to take control of their own learning to figure out exactly what the prologue means and what the play will be about. A lesson which focuses on Act 1 Scene 3 - the Nurse, Lady Capulet and Juliet. My class went on a 'Quest for Quotations' with the worksheet provided and were set off on the task of looking at one specific character before getting into groups and teaching one another. The second half of the lesson focused on an exam style question, with an example included that my class came up with. Worked really well with high ability but can be differentiated and split into two lessons if need be.

Two lessons. First focuses on Tybalt's character in Act 1's party scene. A 'pass the quotation' task which enabled pupils to analyse and explore on a deeper level before answering an exam style question. Second lesson is a creative task focusing on mask making which my class thoroughly enjoyed!

Two lessons which focus on the characterisation of Romeo. First lesson centres on different types of love before reading the section of the play where we first meet Romeo. Key quotations were then put on the board and the pupils were given 3minutes to deeply analyse the quotations. We then fed back as a class - notes on the PowerPoint. Second lesson focuses on how to respond to an Eduqas exam style question (can be adapted to other exam specs), with a high level example included to help the pupils. My class responded really well to this and felt a lot more confident with the exam after these two lessons.

An ideal revision lesson for Year 10 or 11. Focuses on Romeo’s character over the course of the play, with key scenes and quotations being provided. Pupils simply have to analyse what each quotation suggests about his character overall. This could also provide a good starting point for writing an essay about Romeo as well.

A lesson which I used with my KS4 class to further their understanding of the final scene of Romeo and Juliet. Pupils play the board game and answer the questions as they go. Questions are differentiated from easy select and retrieve to more difficult analysis questions. Worked very well and allowed my class to explore independently!

Then the pupils pick their own film clip that they want to recreate in their writing. A model response is included to help.

A fun lesson which is great for KS3 pupils. Starter is a game of taboo based on monsters. A range of descriptive writing examples included to model to pupils. Then move on to a focused piece of writing based on a spooky house. Fun & easily adaptable!

Each set of quotations for each novel are organised efficiently onto one page per module, making this easy for pupils to revise from. Each page states who says the quote, where the quote is taken from in the novel or play and key themes to organise the key quotations into.

A lesson which is aimed towards KS4. Pupils are given an exam style questions focusing on Nick the narrator and his opinions in Chapter 1. Pupils are encouraged to read the extract a paragraph at a time and fill in the table, identifying quotations which prove Nick’s opinions and analyse them. This lesson is meant to be quick paced but you could definitely adapt to suit the needs of your class. A filled in table is also provided for the teacher.
