A 7 lesson scheme of learning designed to help students build up the skills they need to create original characters. KS3 Drama SOL exploring the issues around segregation and how Rosa Parks began to break the mould. Practical SOL.

KS3 Drama SOL or KS4 recap SOL on Physical Theatre, with particular focus on mime, mirroring, canon, unison and line theatre. Overview of unit: Students will explore physical theatre, mime, mirroring, unison, canon and line theatre as they are introduced to this new style of theatre. For their GCSE students will need to show a range of styles and this unit will allow them to do that. Students will be assessed at the end of the unit on their group performance. Texts and resources needed: YouTube, East Clip, iPad. Assessment outcomes and criteria: • Writing assessment: Students will complete a self-assessment at the end of the unit. • Practical assessment in Week 6 (group performance). • Variety of peer and self-assessment opportunities when practicing and performing back performances.

SOW introducing the students to the theatre practitioners Stanislavski, Brecht, Berkoff and Artaud. Students will spend two lessons on each practitioner rehearsing their influences on theatre to enable them to reach the higher levels should they continue with Drama at GCSE level. Students are assessed on Devising, Performance and Writing in this half term. Texts and resources needed: Self-Assessment sheets, SOW Assessment grids, Assessment outcomes and criteria: • Written Assessment: Students in 9Ldr1 – 9Ldr3 will be expected to keep a log book of everything they have completed in lessons before completing comparison questions on the practitioners. Students in 9Ldr4 – 9Ldr6 will just be completing a written self assessment this half term. • Practical Assessment: Students to be assessed on their performing ability in front of the class and their ability to perform in the style of a theatre practitioner. Assessment is practical and as part of mixed ability group. • Devising Assessment: Students to be assessed on their ability to devise a performance. • Variety of peer and self-assessment opportunities when practicing and performing during lessons.

KS3 Drama SOL that introduces students to the basics of script writing and have to develop them to create originality. Practical and written assessment opportunities. Students explore a range of techniques and participate in application tasks that allow them to create and develop their own scripts for performances. Students look at stage directions, subtext, creating tension and formats. Ideal SOL for those who are weaker at the practical side as it allows them to showcase other skills.

Overview of unit: SOW reviewing all acting skills and theatrical conventions learnt over last two years to ensure that all students are at the same stage due to staffing in previous years. Students will spend each lessons going over these and then have to showcase them in a practical assessment at the end of the half term. Lesson 3 Assessment grid, Lesson 7 Assessment grid, Assessment outcomes and criteria: • Written Assessment: Students will complete a written assessment based on the second column of the progression grid reflecting on their progress throughout the half term and linking into the Component 1 portfolio. • Students will be expected to keep a log book of everything they have completed in lessons before completing an acting skills/theatrical conventions presentation. • Practical Assessment: Students to be assessed on their performing ability in front of the class and their ability to incorporate a range of techniques into their performance. Assessment is practical and as part of mixed ability group. • Variety of peer and self-assessment opportunities when practicing and performing during lessons.

KS3 Drama SOL exploring the characteristics and physicality of the stock Commedia Dell’Arte characters. Practical assessment opportunities. Overview of unit: Students explore Commedia Dell’Arte and look at the stock characters of Pantalone, Harlequin, The Captain and Columbina to help them with their characterisation skills and ability to create characters different to themselves. Students will focus particularly on their physicality. Students will also explore Lazzi and how this can be used to successfully create comedy within a performance. Assessment outcomes and criteria: • Student written self-assessment to be completed at the end of the unit. • Practical assessment in Week 7: Group performance. • Variety of peer and self-assessment opportunities when practicing and performing back performances.

KS3 Drama SOL that explores the theme of bullying through the character of Ricky Gibson and his home/school life. Practical and Written assessment opportunities. Students explore the character of Ricky and look at his relationships with home and with peers/teachers at school before devising performances about what ultimately led him to run away from home and how this could have been prevented. Brilliant SOL to do at the beginning of the year with Year 7 who are having friendship issues.
