A fun presentation on identification keys for the Science curriculum. The powerpoint runs through what an identifcation key is, examples of identification keys, how to structure an identification key, two fun activities (involving biscuits and Frozen characters) for pupils to have a go at, plus a homework task! This lesson was used with my Y5 class but can easily be adapted for 8-14 year olds. Topic of green fingers in our local environment, children created front cover by using different shades of green paint on their finger to make an image of a plant.

Design a smoothie with different fruits from around the world. Can be used to investigate where different fruits come from.

This is heavily focused on reading about the subject of plants. Children have to read the text and then answer questions on it.

A dictionary where children can try writing definitions of key words that they found on the internet (previous lesson). Children will write simple definitions for words, such as, root, stem, leaf etc.Great for display!

Poster saying 'our very important word is challenge' used in my classroom to inspire self motivation.

An assortment of resources to do with jungle topic. Postcards - used for writing assessment at end of topic. Designing and drawing picture in the style of Henri Rousseau etc.

Children given two different seeds to grow (after discussion) - think about how the bean/flower seeds will grow differently.

Draw self portrait and add positive labels about my personality. Can also be used for a partner.

A PSHE/Literacy activity where children draw objects into an empty suitcase that represent who they are and then write about it underneath

Allows children to draw a picture of themselves and write about what makes them special and also write about something that makes them feel happy or sad. Have used after a circle time.
