Here is a power point where, on the switch or click, a picture appears on the theme of music or musical instruments. Children can predict which letter is coming next and try to work out an instrument or musical term beginning with that letter. The alphabet from a to z is covered. Extend by sorting the instruments into woodwind, stringed, percussion, brass and electronic. Useful too, for cutting out for displays and visual aids.

This is a great lesson on its own, or accompanied by a jar(empty sweet jar will do) filled with positive sayings, pictures or quotations. Great lesson to start the New Year or Term in a positive way. Children can use the* Postits* on page 3 to write some notes and plan what they will put into their own jar. They can work in pairs or groups for this or on their own. This is a good discussion to find out about any anxieties your children may have about Transition, Moving On or Change such as moving to a new class / year group or school. The slides can be used with small groups or the whole class and focus on positive things as well as those that may be a little worrying for children. The last slide is an activity sheet, that can be printed off, for children to express their individual thoughts and feelings around Change and Transition. The images are lovely as they have a fabric feel to them and could stimulate collage work or sewing with felt or materials. The activity included shows all 12 pictures which children can cut out and paste in order on the number sheet provided.
