Graphics for GCSE physics waves topic

Preparing for a lesson with a student on waves, I was searching for diagrams to illustrate it. The internet is awash with suitable diagrams, but they all seem to be low-resolution bitmaps. Being a vector graphic fanatic, I made some high quality graphics of my own. I offer them in pdf, keynote and powerpoint formats. If you would like the editable svg files, get in touch with me via my web site

Hooke's Law simulation

A simple simulation of the experiment. Unzip the file. Open the folder. Double click on ‘spring stretch version 4.html’ and it opens in your browser. Add the masses by clicking the buttons, and watch the spring stretch. Use a ruler to measure the extension. (The anomaly on the graph at 3N is probably due to a draught of warm air expanding the spring as a door was opened). Enjoy! A preview is availableon my web site. Please note: in order to provide a rich interactive experience, my interactive resources are mini-web sites local to your computer. After unzipping, they comprise a folder containing the main .html file and another folder containing the graphic resources and my coding to make the resource work. Double click on the .html file and the resource will work. If, however , you move or delete any of the files from this hierarchy, the resource will not work. ©D&D production

I made a wacky interactive widget thingy to illustrate the gas laws. Change the property with the slider and it draws the graph. Just for fun really. A preview may be seen on my web site. Ionic bonding animation

A simple animation to jazz up ionic bonding a little: covers sodium fluoride, magnesium fluoride and lithium oxide. Short and sweet. Just double click on ionic bonding.html and it will run in your web browser. If it’s too small, just zoom in with browser controls. A preview can be seen at on my web site. Simple Drag & Drop exercises for the eye, heart , ear, digestive system and skeleton. Whole body also thrown in. Use year in, year out with all sorts of classes. Nice around the whiteboard as AFL, or for students individually at a computer. All work in your browser, easily zoomed in or out. Print out the result as a revision aid. The disappearing cross experiment simulation

I have made a simulation of this experiment at four different temperatures. Double click on the “disappearing cross copy.html” file and there it is in your web browser. Students time the cross disappearing, after someone presses the button and shouts go. Saves a nasty experiment with hot solutions and sulfur dioxide. Use over and over again. You can make it huge by using the browser zoom controls. A preview is available on my web site.
