Increase your trainee’s subject-specific knowledge

Give your trainee's a head start with their subject knowledge and teaching confidence with our 100% online, tutor-supported, Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses which can be studied before or alongside Initial Teacher Training.

Our courses are designed to help prospective trainee teachers develop their understanding of their subject within the context of teaching it in a classroom.

  • The Department for Education (DfE) will provide full funding for an SKE course so long as you add a condition to their offer that states the SKE course will enable the learner to access their training programme.  Additional bursaries are also available for trainees with a 2:2 degree or higher. (Please be aware the DfE the make decisions on funding and there are implications when an SKE overlaps with the ITT training).

  • Yes, all of our SKE courses are delivered online as we believe this provides learners with the greatest amount of flexibility and allows them to fit learning around their personal and work life.  They will also get online tutor support from us while one the course which can also be blended with any face-to-face training that you may want to deliver.

  • You’ll receive regular checkpoint reports every four weeks that will outline your trainee's progress and suggestions of areas for improvement. You will also receive a final detailed report once they finish the course.

  • Yes, we also provide SKE courses for teachers who have already qualified. These are designed slightly differently in order to fit around a full timetable and you can find out more about them here

Outstanding teachers have to have excellent subject knowledge for teaching, so enabling trainees to have access to the SKE courses at an early stage provides them with a really strong foundation to build on.
