What happens next?

We'll send a copy of your application to the member of staff at the School Direct school or ITT provider named in your application.

This contact will be able to confirm that you meet the criteria for a funded SKE place and that they're supporting your application.

We strongly advise that you also notify your ITT provider to tell them that you have submitted an application to Tes Institute and to expect an email from us. If they do not respond to our email we will be unable to enrol you on your chosen SKE course.

Upon receipt of confirmation from your ITT provider or School Direct lead school, we'll finalise your application and contact you, either to confirm your acceptance onto your SKE course or to raise a query regarding your application form, if we require clarification or further information.

Once you've accepted your place on the course the next time we'll contact you will be the Friday before the start date you've selected.

When will I receive my welcome email?

As there are no pre-course activities, you'll receive an email with registration instructions for our online learning platform Tes Learn shortly before your course starts.

Your welcome email will also contain the date and time for your course induction tutorial. If you don't receive this email, please check your spam folder, as these emails can sometimes be mistakenly sent to this folder.

Am I eligible for the bursary and when will I get paid?

Providing that you meet all of the eligibility requirements (have a degree of 2:2 or above and a conditional ITT placement offer) we'll submit a claim to the DfE on your behalf (this is assuming that you haven't previously received SKE funding from the DfE).

Once approved you should be eligible to receive the full bursary amount of £175 per week for full-time study or £87.50 per week for part-time study. We'll notify you as soon as possible if you're not eligible. More information can be found in your welcome email regarding bursaries and eligibility.

A member of our finance team will contact you two to three weeks after your course start date to obtain your bank details for the administration of your bursary.

Please note bursaries are paid in arrears, on or around the 28th of every month. Unless this date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, then payment will be sent the working day before.

If I don't qualify for the bursary, do I need to pay for the course?

As long as your ITT provider or School Direct lead school confirms that you meet the eligibility criteria, the programme costs for the course may still be funded by the DfE. If you have any questions, please get in touch using our contact form.
