About Dixons Unity Academy
Dixons Unity Academy was founded on 1 October 2018 and is an 11-16 academy which serves the local community; however, we do have students who travel across the city to learn with us. Situated on the borders of the communities of Armley, Wortley and Bramley, the academy consists of 702 students in years 7 to 11 and we have 240 places available for year 7 students in 2019.
We believe that all students, from all backgrounds and all cultures can climb the mountain to university or a viable alternative. We place a focus on building the resilience and self-respect which allows us to reach our goals. Students and staff are required to demonstrate integrity and respect at all times and remain values-driven. All staff demand the highest standards of behaviour and learning to ensure that students get what they deserve: a high quality education which allows students to become lifelong learners and enrich their communities with their mind-set, knowledge and skills.
A note from the Principal
As Principal of Dixons Unity Academy, I am committed to our vision of ensuring the academy is united behind a common purpose of empowering young people from all cultures and backgrounds to improve their life chances and develop a lifelong love of learning which enriches the local community.
At Dixons Unity, we all work hard to climb the mountain to university or a viable alternative and to secure a progress 8 score of +1.0. We do not allow excuses to hold us back from educational excellence and we apply the values of Integrity, Resilience and Respect in everything we do.
Integrity is the quality of being honest and doing the right thing at all times. Resilience represents the capacity to recover from difficulty and overcome any obstacle to progress. Respect is showing regard for the values, feelings, wishes and rights of others while also admiring others for their abilities, qualities or achievements.
Unity means to be whole and undivided. We apply these values both individually and collectively and I believe that, together, we can support every child to flourish and lead happy and successful lives, regardless of disadvantage or background. I will strive to ensure that the academy community works tirelessly to achieve this mission.
