This is a very useful resource to help students structure their revision for an end of unit assessment or their final exam. It has been organised Chronologically but also provides students with the information to revise thematically. I would suggest enlarging to A3 if possible and students have found this a great starting point to their revision as it sets out all of the topics covered in the American West on one sheet. Please note that this is a single sheet resource, but due to the time it took to produce this, I hope this reflects the asking price for it. Hopefully it can last you many years.

The Industrial Revolution The aim of this lesson is to question how effective Victorian justice was. This is an interesting and engaging lesson for students as they decide who was a criminal (from their looks), which were the most common crimes in the early 1800’s and what you could expect at a public hanging though some source analysis. By the end of the lesson, students will be able to answer the following questions: Why was it so easy to commit crime in the Victorian period in the early nineteenth century and if you were unfortunate to get caught what could you expect from Victorian justice? What was the Bloody Code and why was the law so harsh to offenders irrespective in some cases of sex or age? There are also three case studies to unpick and students are left questioning the morality and effectiveness of the punishments inflicted. Please note that the reform of the criminal justice system is dealt with in other lessons such as the Victorian prison system and the setting up of the Metropolitan Police force by Sir Robert Peel and the abolition of the Bloody Code. There are a choice of plenaries from hangman to bingo and heart, head, bag, bin which get the students to prioritise the most ‘effective’ methods used to deal with crime. The lesson is enquiry based with a key question using a lightbulb posed at the start of the lesson and revisited at the end to show the progress of learning. The resource comes in PowerPoint format if there is a wish to adapt and change. I have also included suggested teaching strategies to deliver the lesson and there are differentiated materials included.

This set includes notes, revision notes, essay plans, summaries, revision tables and timelines which have all the information necessary to study the British Empire between 1857-1967 for the AQA A-Level. They are highly detailed and are to an A* standard. It includes: class notes on chapters 1-24, revision notes on chapters 1-24, 96 exam essay plans with judgements , bullet pointed summary of the whole course by theme, four timelines (colour coded and B/W) covering the 4 time periods, 7 timelines (colour coded and B/W) which cover events of the whole period organised by geography and two revision tables. The notes are taken primarily from Robert Carr’s Oxford AQA History for A Level: The British Empire c1857-1967 (978-0198354635) but other sources were also used.

In this lesson, students will learn about why crime became such as problem in the Victorian era and how a police force and harsh punishments were brought in to solve the problem. They will learn about what punishments were given in schools, prisons and for more serious crimes. They will be tasked to enact short dramas based on the stories given and to then write a newspaper article focusing on one of the stories in detail (proforma provided).
