This booklet is in two modules, first 'setting the scene&' where issues surrounding the behaviour of children in school today are discussed. Second &';personal attitudes' are examined through quizzes such as classroom management styles, causes of different behaviours and feedback from self assessments.
Here is a powerpoint, with activities that help to illustrate that behaviour that challenges us is actually trying to communicate with us. It may not be doing it in the best way possible but it is trying to say something, perhaps “I can’t cope”, “Leave me alone” or “stop”.
The powerpoint is accompanied by the stress bucket worksheet. If you are not aware of the stress bucket, it is explained nicely here. https://youtu.be/1KYC5SsJjx8
The powerpoint is also accompanied by the ‘behaviour analysis cards’. Both of which can be used independently. The cards with red arrows indicate possible triggers for challengeing behaviour, The speech bubbles provide suggestions as to what the behaviour may be ‘saying’ and the cards with green arrows provide suggestions as to what we or the individual can do to manage challenges more successfully.
This CPD session offers an engaging and original approach to improving behaviour management practices. Grounded in educational research, this CPD session is interactive, well-structured, and has been successfully tried and tested. The aim of the CPD session is to develop the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed in order to utilise behaviour management even more effectively in lessons, and it achieves this by embarking upon the following learning journey:
1. Fully understanding the various reasons for challenging behaviour;
2. Observing and analysing behaviour management practices through a Youtube video;
3. Evaluating the main behaviour concerns in the participants' school/classrooms
4. Gaining familiarity with a range of research and theory suggesting the best methods and strategies for a number of different challenging situations;
5, Planning effective behaviour management strategies to prevent and combat challenging behaviour in the participants' real-life classrooms.
Included in this pack are: Full PowerPoint presentation, a hyperlinked video for analysis, cards fro the Diamond Nine activity, a top tips helpsheet, instructions for the main group task, and guidance for trainers/ presenters.
All images and videos are licensed for commercial use, and are cited on the final slide.
This training presentation has been developed to support teenagers and adult individuals who have complex needs and demonstrate challenging behaviours.
This is editable and each slide is pretty self explanatory but where further information is required you will find it in the “notes” area of that slide.

The behaviour management PPT makes use of a simple but effective way to mange classroom behaviour. It contains a 4 step process to manage behaviour of students. Just be consistent with it and you see the rewards.
A great tip is that you always start with Silent mode and inform students that they will earn the other modes depending on how well they do with silent mode. You then give them time limits on other modes. Very very effective for short burst tasks.
‘School Matters’ looks at whether there is a school discipline crisis. Ruth Kelly, the former Education Secretary, has set up a group of teachers to devise a national strategy tackling behaviour in schools.
Teachers and headteachers talk about what they consider to be bad behaviour, how they see it increasing and schemes they have introduced to solve the problem. Geoff Moss, an Assertive Discipline trainer, believes that changing social attitudes have blurred the distinction between childhood and adolescence and that teachers increasingly need to teach responsible behaviour.
An article about how children and adults with severe learning difficulties can be helped to develop positive behaviour by promoting a sense of wellbeing. Based on an interview with Dr Dave Hewett.

A set of 18 pocket sized set of reminders for children who have trouble managing their anger. Strategies to use when stressed. Blank cards are included for specific instructions and can be written on with a pen. These can be useful when used with the Stressometer - one at home and one at school with consistent messages can help your child to regulate themselves.
Print them off (I suggest you laminate them) and pop on a keyring. Or print as large posters round the room
These are also available to purchase professionally made on a keyring from my Ebay store
£4.99 inc delivery. eBay item number:132130271377
The Stressometer is A4 sized and should be made with thick laminated card. Attach a velcro strip across the blank box to attach the arrow to, for your child to move to the appropriate number. Useful for both verbal and non verbal children and adults as you can teach your child to use breathing exercises instead of shouting and screaming, whilst still conveying to you how they are feeling at the time
This is also available to purchase professionally made through my ebay shop

An adaptable behaviour management resource whereby students can earn points for good behaviour throughout a lesson.
At the end of the lesson the points are added up and they receive the appropriate prize.
This has worked really well with some challenging students as the focus is fully on the positives.
The 'rewards drawer' is a drawer I have with sweets in but can be easily changed.

Social story for children who act dangerously when in a heightened state of emotion. The story covers walking sensibly in corridors, remaining calm, not leaving the classroom without asking, not climbing, following teacher instructions and asking for help when it is needed.
The point of a social story is to use a patient and reassuring tone to teach children about social situations in a way that can be easily understood. Social stories can be useful for any child who is struggling to understand a situation or concept or needs help to understand a social skill or social cue, expectations, perspectives, common responses or is troubled about an upcoming event but social stories are particularly useful for children on the autistic spectrum for whom social cues can be challenging and who often suffer anxiety if they do not know what to expect from a situation.
These books should be used over and over to reinforce the point so I would suggest either putting the pages into a display book or laminating and binding them.

This presentation offers staff guidance for how to combat behaviour issues both in and outside the classroom. Can be used to support teaching or support staff.
I created this Daily Log in response to a parent saying they did not understand what their child was doing ‘wrong’ and why their child was behaving inappropriately in their new Reception Class.
Each day has one ‘booklet’, outlining the days expectations. Staff highlight when appropriate behaviours are demonstrated.
A list of agreed strategies are recorded on the back of the booklet.
There is a section for parents to respond.
It proved to be an effective tool for discussion.
To be used for a short term.
It will need to be adapted for individual use.

Point5 Behaviour: Resilience and GRIT Information and Advice sheets
The theory behind this work:
Resilience and GRIT are skills. They can be taught. Teachers need practical ways to teach our children this vital skill. We have found a great way to introduce this skill and this can be used as a whole class focus. We will use the word GRIT rather than Resilience.

Obviously the first port of call when dealing with any challenging behaviour is to follow the school's behaviour management policy. This resource provides a step by step guide to having the difficult conversation that follows a behaviour incident in a way that maintains the emotional well-being of both the teacher and the student (without the teacher having to resort to shouting) that can be adapted to any school's behaviour policy.
